When you find a new, free
relationship
to your past self, you can awake to the present and meet what comes toward you from the future with openness and expectancy.
I provide therapeutic services for individuals and families who are struggling with difficult relationships, and for anyone needing help navigating challenging states of being or life situations. Perhaps troubling emotions, including numbness, are separating you from others and from participating in the world, keeping you disconnected from life. Perhaps you are at an impasse where the old ways of life are no longer working and the new have not yet emerged; maybe you are giving up hope of meaningful contact with others and on how you fit in this world.

In today's world, individuals and families often face formidable challenges. As an experienced LCSW, I harness the power of collaboration to navigate these hurdles. For an adult, it might be their
spouse

From this rich tapestry, we weave a bespoke treatment plan that accentuates your inherent positives. With our partnership, I hope we can empower your journey toward becoming your best "you."

My career as a marriage and family therapist has been dedicated to work with families; namely
couples
and children. A systemic lens of the world takes into account absolutely everything. I see you as more than just a person, you are part of a larger fabric; the family you were born into and as well as the one you make as an adult. This can include, but is not limited to, partnerships and marriage, friendships, work and career, cultural identity, personal traditions and individual hobbies. Whatever makes you who you are is a part of treatment.

As a "systemically trained" therapist, I enter the therapeutic
relationship
within a contextual lense.
When I work with a client, my hope is that the individual will experience a sense of understanding and hopefulness for change in their present situation. I believe that when an individual feels that the clinician is truly invested in "walking with" the "whole person" on their journey, the client will gain a new perspective on their movement in life. When I see individuals who are struggling with anxiety and/or depression, relational concerns, life stressors, and/or loss and transition issues, my main focus is to support the client in developing a hopefulness that positive change is possible.

I believe the most important part of counseling is the therapeutic
relationship
.
Maybe you’ve noticed that making a change in your life is a difficult. Many people struggle to find their footing in the world at one point or another – this can be a large source of anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, and stress. I want you to feel at ease to be your most authentic self, and to feel genuinely safe and comfortable as we explore your concerns together. Above all else, I prioritize warmth, comfort, and compassion at the core of the work we do. I promise to tell you honestly and compassionately what you need to hear, even when it might be difficult to face right now.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
