In my practice I like to work with both emotional and cognitive aspects of individual experience, to promote a strong emotional connection to oneself and others while understanding one's mind and how to deal effectively with overly persistent thoughts and feelings that contribute to anxiety, depression,
anger
, etc.
What's important to me is working with others to find meaning in life, to help bring about a greater happiness that's shared. I believe it's possible to do this is we are able to understand ourselves better - we can then understand others and our connections become deeper and more alive.

My practice serves individuals who are struggling with various issues such as relationships, self-esteem, drugs and alcohol bullying,
anger management
, grief and loss and other mental health hurdles. I help clients who feel that their life is spiraling out of control, gain self discipline, and develop coping strategies, which ultimately leads them to inner peace. As a young teen, I know it must be difficult handling bullying whether it is online or in person. It is crucial providing a safe place to discuss sensitive matters and that is why we are conducting weekly groups for teens so that they know that they are not alone.

After a client finishes working with me they feel more in touch with who they are as individuals, are more able to embrace empowered thinking and resilience in all aspects of their lives, and are more willing to practice daily strategies in mindfulness focused on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with an emphasis on radical acceptance. I also utilize motivational interviewing which is a client centered approach focused on positive behavior change.

I believe in providing intervention for clients and families that is purposeful. This means the client will be taught to understand what they need to do to reach their goals. This includes understanding the complexity of their emotional distress, obtaining skills and strategies, and getting feedback and support on applying these strategies effectively.

While feeling better is always job one, the best psychotherapy moves beyond our painful feelings, replacing them with a more hopeful vision. My special passion is to support you -- not just in feeling less sad, anxious or confused -- but also in living an more satisfying life, Drawing on my extensive "real world" experience as an attorney and community leader, I offer traditional counseling tools - and more -- teaching the real world skills you need to more effectively negotiate the world as it is and working to mold the environments you live in ways that are more decent and humane.

Having extensive experience, I use empirically supported therapies, and have treated a wide range of ages as well as the most serious disorders. It is my belief that salient therapy treats a client in 3 different directions: top-down (spiritual dimension), inside out (healing of memories), and outside-in (Cognitive-Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy). After a thorough assessment, I would identify with my client, determine problems on which to work, set appropriate goals, and determine the correct therapeutic intervention(s) to be used. Meeting those goals would be a therapeutic benchmark throughout the therapy.

My typical client is a child, adolescent, or young adult struggling with depression/anxiety, ADHD or high functioning ASD. Problems with adaptation to school, peers, home life, work and community bring havoc and heartache to the client, parents, teacher, classroom or social life. Underachievement, conflict with parents and siblings, damaged self-esteem, or issues navigating healthy friendships are the norm for the population I treat every day. Parents and teachers look to me for guidance in helping coach the client to better choices, improved school functioning, and overall psychological health. I use strategic tools and templates to fulfill these goals.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
