As a queer transgender person, I am thankful to be able to give back to my community as an out therapist.
In therapy with me, I will help you understand your relationship patterns and empower you to make autonomous, well thought-out decisions in your life, as well as get relief from your symptoms and generally cope better. Coming from a somatic and trauma-informed background means I deeply appreciate the ways our bodies carry the potential for healing.

I love to work with my non-binary and transgender communities to thrive and navigate all of life’s transitions.
I believe in your ability to build the life you want and grow towards the person you want to be. Especially if life is hard for you due to complex trauma and living under systems of oppression. I believe that radical change and liberation starts from the inside out.

I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ and questioning adults including transgender, nonbinary, and gender expansive people.
As an LGBTQ+ person today, it’s easy to feel like everything is unraveling while you’re just trying to hold it together. If you’re exploring your identity, coming out or transitioning, or struggling to cope in an increasingly hostile world, it can feel overwhelming and hopeless. You might be questioning who you are, what you want, or your relationships. Maybe you’re carrying shame, fear, or doubt, hiding parts of yourself to please others or to stay safe. When these common problems go unspoken and unsupported, the end result is often anxiety, depression, and disconnection.

I come to my work not merely as an outsider with expertise, but as a neurodivergent and transgender individual myself who has lived experience navigating many of the issues I work to help others heal from.
When facing life stressors, we tend to focus on addressing the immediate symptoms. This can be very adaptive. However, if we only ever focus on the immediate symptoms of our struggles, then we may never recognize or have the possibility of healing the root cause of our pain. I believe that therapy provides a powerful space to explore, understand, and ultimately heal the root causes of our struggles. I approach my work with insight from a variety of therapeutic frameworks, including Narrative Therapy, IFS, Solution Focused Therapy, & Attachment Theory. I am also formally trained in EMDR which I can incorporate into therapy.

Let’s be real: being a person is hard. That’s an easy enough fact to acknowledge, but the truly difficult part is deciding when and where to put your vulnerabilities on display. While committing to the therapeutic process can feel unpredictable and is not without its messy bits, taking a step towards prioritizing yourself and your wellbeing is an act of incredible courage.

Hello! I am a queer and trans non-binary person who is half-Taiwanese and half-White, neurodiverse and chronically ill. I have the most experience working with clients who are members of the LGBTQIA+ community, specifically trans and gender-nonconforming people. I’m here to support you no matter what intersections of identity you may hold. I really enjoy working with clients who are seeking more fulfillment and authenticity in their lives - however that may mean to you - as your own autonomy is deeply important to me.

Transgender Therapists

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
