I wonder what behaviors you have found to ease the discomfort of anxiety, depression, and stress? Behaviors like, socially withdrawing, being emotionally guarded, and avoidance; behaviors that once served as protection, have become fixed challenges that impede personal growth. And it's scary to think of what it might take to change any of this, so you've stayed stuck. Through therapy you will grow. You'll learn where the behaviors and attitudes came from, how they served you, what you need now, and you will get unstuck. I would be honored to support you in your process.

As a general mental health provider, I am comfortable working with diverse presenting concerns including addiction, depression, anxiety, trauma, men's issues, and college-related concerns.
Greetings! Just like you, I am human. In 2019 I achieved sobriety from alcohol use disorder, and in 2020 I made a career change from being a professionally-trained orchestral musician and private music instructor to becoming a therapist. I bring this life experience to my work as a therapist because I feel it is critical for you as the client to know who you are trusting with your care. Therapy hinges on one core dynamic: the power of feeling heard, seen, and understood by another person. I aim to achieve this by cultivating a welcoming atmosphere free from judgment, and by valuing the inherent worth and dignity of my clients.

You’re here because something feels stuck — in your relationship, in your sexual life, or in the way you show up with the people closest to you. Maybe you’re a couple caught in the same painful cycle, or a man trying to navigate vulnerability, desire, or shame on your own. You’ve probably tried to think your way through it. You want a therapist who will be specific about what’s actually happening — not someone who offers reassurance or generic tools, but someone trained to work with the particular complexity you’re bringing.

I work with clients who are open to being challenged as they work toward their goals. My path to therapy began after years in outdoor leadership, mountain guiding, and experiential education, where I learned how principles of adventure can support growth in everyday life. In therapy, I combine adventure-based approaches with traditional modalities such as ACT, CBT, and MI. I believe good therapy should feel safe while also being effortful and inspiring.

My approach to psychotherapy is primarily psychodynamic and relational, drawing from elements of somatic practices. These approaches to therapy inform my belief that we can heal and grow when we are able to increase awareness of our experience, make meaning, and strengthen our relationships with ourselves and others.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
