Mindful Matters Counseling Group
Licensed Professional Counselor, MS, LPC, NCC, ICGC-I

Pittsburgh, PA 15228
I am an LPC experienced working with survivors of sexual violence (rape, incest, childhood sexual abuse) grief/loss, other interpersonal traumas, anxiety, depression, gambling issues and relationship issues.
Life can leave you feeling stuck or overwhelmed at times. Sometimes one may feel generally dissatisfied with life and wanting more, if any of these are you...you are not alone. Depression, hopelessness, relationship problems, loss, domestic/sexual violence, sexual abuse, and addiction are just a few of the issues that bring people into counseling. Confronting these realities can be a daunting task. Counseling and the therapeutic relationship can help individuals address these adversities, transcend negative emotions and heal. I've learned that a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation to combating negative emotions such as; sadness, guilt, shame, anxiety, hurt, and hopelessness.

Hi I'm Gabby, Licensed Art Therapist and Counselor. I provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, life transitions, and emotional challenges that can feel hard to name or express. I offer a trauma-informed, client-centered space where you can slow down, explore what you’re experiencing, and make sense of it at your own pace. I integrate talk therapy with creative expression to help you explore your thoughts, emotions, and patterns. You don’t need any art experience to benefit from art therapy because creative tools simply offer another way to support insight and healing.

In my approach, I try and lead my clients to come to their own answers, unearthing solutions and insight that they hold within themselves. My direct approach can often be funny, though empathetic; lighthearted, though deeply emotional. Typically, I find that clients benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as Motivational Interviewing to solve current issues, and can utilize Psychodynamic and culturally competent approaches to delve into more deep rooted issues. In helping clients tell their own story through therapy, I've been able guide clients through finding their own solutions when motivated for change.

Life can feel really hard sometimes—especially when you're dealing with sadness, anxiety, past pain, or trying to stay strong in recovery. Maybe you've been through something traumatic. Maybe you're turning to unhealthy ways to cope. Or maybe you're just tired of trying to hold it all together on your own.

Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable individuals who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected despite doing their best to keep everything together. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, or simply feeling like they've lost touch with themselves. Together, we work to better understand what's keeping them stuck, build practical skills, and create meaningful, lasting change that aligns with their values and the life they want to live.

FAQ - Therapy for Gambling
How do I know if someone has a gambling problem that could benefit from therapy?
A person with gambling disorder is often in denial of their problem. The individual generally gambles increasing amounts of money to achieve the desired excitement. They are restless or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop gambling. This person may have made unsuccessful repeated attempts to control, cut back, or stop gambling. This individual is often preoccupied with thoughts of past gambling, planning the next activity, and how to get the money needed.

What is an effective treatment for gambling?
Cognitive behavioral therapy is used for many conditions and disorders. CBT concentrates on the individual’s thoughts and behaviors. For example, beliefs about the odds of winning are challenged in therapy. In addition, this type of therapy zeroes in on habits and triggers; it also devises coping strategies when triggers arise. CBT can be effective, but the individual must admit they have a problem, and they must have the desire to stop gambling.

How long does therapy take for gambling disorder?
Recovering from gambling disorder takes time and effort. There’s no precise timeline for treatment, but a person can see change if they stick with therapy and if they have the will and desire to stop. Treatment for gambling disorder requires honesty in therapy, a commitment to understanding triggers, as well as the development of coping skills. Making lifestyle changes is also important, such as staying away from lotteries, online gambling, and casinos.

Is relapse a problem for those with a gambling disorder?
Gambling disorder is often chronic and can be life-long; therefore relapse may present a problem for some individuals. But effective treatment can bring a person’s life under control. To remain healthy and on track, the individual may need to regularly check in with their support group or psychotherapist. Frequently refreshing their tools of recovery can be helpful.
