I have a particular interest in working with women during pregnancy and postpartum.
You've likely landed on my profile because you're looking for more support and realize that you can't do it alone. Perhaps you've put everyone's needs before yours. Maybe you've told yourself that you can keep putting your feelings to the side. We sometimes believe that we should be able to manage it all and do it on our own. Whether you're struggling with depression or anxiety, family transitions during pregnancy or postpartum, or just trying to have more effective, supportive, and fulfilling relationships, I'm here to help. You don't have to carry it alone anymore.

I specialize in working with women who eat their feelings. I have developed the STOP Eating Your Feelings approach, which differentiates four different patterns of emotional overeating. Distinguishing these four types helps compulsive eaters to identify the reasons why they binge and to target the particular patterns they need to change in order to move beyond compulsive overeating. I also work with clients with anxiety, depression, workplace stress, those healing from grief or trauma or trying to sort out the effects of growing up in a dysfunctional family.

I work with women who struggle with blended high/low self esteem. To the outside world, we are successful and have our shit together. Except we are masters at hiding pain. Inside, we have a black hole filled with guilt, shame, and feeling unworthy. We feel stress managing family, life, career, relationships, and don't feel good enough. We carry trauma in our bodies and it shows up in our daily life. From a young age, we learned self betrayal was pivotal to be worthy of love and to feel good enough. We didn't have a voice. My focus is repairing the damage due to past experiences and how it’s created a critical view to our own self.

For the past 25 years I have practiced the healing art and science of psychotherapy working with clients experiencing mood disorders, anxiety, the effects of PTSD (which includes combat, and physical, sexual, and emotional abuse), dissociation, grief, explosive anger, and issues unique to men or women .
The most courageous thing you can do is to begin the journey of understanding your own story. Our past experiences touch nearly every relationship in our lives. Often, despite our best efforts, old unhelpful patterns re-emerge. Our ways of coping with stress and uncertainty become painful and limiting with time. Psychotherapy can be a space to unlearn these harmful patterns and heal past hurtful experiences. I use an eclectic framework for therapy that depends on what my client feels is most helpful, though my roots are in attachment, psychodynamic and EMDR therapies.

I have over 10 years of specialized experience, generally blending warmth, mindfulness, behavioral and phenomenological approaches in my work with women and young adults with mood, anxiety and trauma-related difficulties.
We are each wired for growth, for healing, and for connection. All of us have an in-built, innate capacity to weather changes, recover from/with pain and loss, and find balance and meaning in our worlds amidst difficulty and change. And still, we can encounter real barriers to living in connection with our strengths. Sometimes habitual thoughts, painful emotions, ineffective patterns of behavior, or stressors, losses and traumas that we meet without the support or stability needed to move through - such challenges can leave us depleted and distrustful of our own capacity for well-being and connection.

How can I find a therapist in Pittsburgh?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
