Through the therapeutic process, I can work with you and your
family
to help your child develop the skills needed to effectively cope with challenging emotions and improve behavior at any stage of development.
Have you noticed a change in your child's behavior? Is worry, anger or sadness affecting your
family
's daily life? Has your child's school expressed concerns? Difficulty coping with change and life's stressors can happen at any age. Without the appropriate skills to communicate their emotions, children often express their feelings through negative behavior. Psychotherapy can be a positive process through which children learn the strategies and skills needed to cope, adjust and effectively communicate their thoughts and feelings. I offer counseling and therapy services to children/families to assist them in this process of change.

I am inspired by working with individuals and families who desire to transcend historic personal and interpersonal limitations in order to embrace a richer experience of life. I have learned that human beings carry within them the ability to heal and live well. My purpose is to guide you into your own resources and facilitate the emergence of a new awareness about yourself and your relationship with the world around you.

My clients face a range of life’s challenges: depression, anxiety, peer conflict, communication, transition to college/work, enhancing self-awareness, identity, relationship/
family
dynamics (separation/divorce), grief, and autism or attention deficit/executive functioning challenges.
Many of my clients are making exciting but often daunting transitions - from Jr High to High School or High School to College, ending or beginning new relationships and careers. Change is so often viewed with anxiety and negativity. Yet, change is happening all around us every day. How can we make change a positive experience in our lives? How can we choose to change something that is not working? How can we learn and grow from a challenging experience? As a counselor, I believe my job is to create a space where clients can explore these and other topics, in a way that ultimately positively impacts their day to day lives.

Healing work is hard work, but so rewarding. I work with individuals and couples whose experiences of
family
-based and other systemic traumas have left them suffering from anxiety, depression, isolation, shame, relationship dysfunction, PTSD, etc. Clients working with me express a desire to better understand how they feel and why, to feel more aware of emotional reactivity and relationship distress, and to feel confident in making conscious choices routinely and in their most challenging moments.

My ideal clients have issues with anxiety, depression, addiction and grief. Those who have little to no
family
support or friend network to rely on during difficult times. I work with people who struggle with alcoholism and drug abuse and repeated relapse. Many of my clients need help making life decisions especially between the ages of 16-26. Also those who are in transition either from divorce, from college to the workplace and single parents. Most everyone needs to know if they are going to be okay and if they are, how will they be okay.

I utilize somatic, body-based based modalities such as Internal

I believe therapy is most effective when the clinician presents themselves as the client does-a person with a unique past and personality. When you take out a therapist’s humanity and lived experience, there is no true therapeutic connection and trust from the client. That’s why I strive to be both a person and therapist through my conversational, authentic, and collaborative style. I have served those experiencing chronic mental health issues including anxiety, depression, PTSD, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, and psychosomatic presentations.

When people feel weighed down by the heaviness that seems to consume them, providing a sense of space and reconstruction that allows a shift to occur is vital. In that shift, I hope to provide a supportive environment where they will feel that weight move and become the foundation on which they can rebuild their life. This heaviness is a unilateral condition experienced by all human beings. The secret is to create a skillset that permits the transition from weight being carried to weight being conquered. In my opinion, there is no ideal client, however, there is a blueprint of individual success for everyone.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
