The second half of life can be much better than the first. In fact, midlife is an ideal time for healing, growth and change. So if your ship launched on choppy waters or rocky shoals and you're still navigating rough seas, a midlife course correction could help. What's required? Openness to new experience, willingness to engage, capacity to commit, and a therapist who knows what's possible and how to achieve it. A seasoned mariner can help navigate the midlife passage with the art of healing, the science of change, and the "hard work miracle" of growth.

Healing and growth happen most powerfully through connection—with yourself, others, and in the therapeutic relationship. Clients describe me as warm, respectful, and able to individualize therapy. From that relational foundation, we can address things like your relationships with self/others; breakups, career changes, graduate school, life transitions, or losses; self-trust/self-compassion; anxiety, depression, or stress. We can also address difficult emotions and/or physical sensations; emotional neglect; body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) like skin picking or hair pulling; and thriving as a highly sensitive person (HSP).

Nothing is inherently wrong with you. Forget any diagnosis and completing a bunch of forms. That diagnostic label (if any) only defines a temporary experience. How are you now and what needs to shift? That’s the goal. If your head is clouded; if your career, relationships, or health are stressful; if you can’t navigate options; if you feel stuck, unsure, or overwhelmed; if you can’t find relief… I will empower you. The power is in YOU to change your circumstances (and you will be put to work). I’ll help you become so self-aware that you wholeheartedly trust your intuition enough to find the answers: without doubt, fear, or guilt.

Therapy must not work for you - sound familiar? You’re self-aware and insightful - maybe even the one others come to for support. But, you’re tired of it & tired of feeling stuck in patterns that don’t match how much you "know" and what you've learned you "should" do to feel better. Your nervous system is constantly "on," and no matter how much inner work you’ve done, something still feels off. That's where I come in. I help the helpers, healers, and deep feelers come home to themselves so that what they "know" and how they feel can be more in harmony with each other. It wasn't always this way... or maybe it feels like it has been.

I am a psychiatrist and psychotherapist who believes therapy is an opportunity to address aspects of the human condition that are very much felt, though not as often examined in contemporary life. The development of a secure, safe, and supportive therapeutic relationship is central to the effectiveness of psychotherapy and lays the groundwork for self-reflection, healing, and growth. My approach is dedicated to facilitating this process and creating a collaborative space for empathy, curiosity, and understanding. As a psychiatrist, I am also able to provide thoughtful, adjunctive medication management.

My goal is to show you that there is a better way. A way to live with intention and purpose, guided by the best version of you! (Please note I do not have evening or weekend availability, and my office is located in the South Hills of Pittsburgh)

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
