Currently accepting new clients with daytime availability. It's okay to not be okay. You might feel paralyzed because it seems like everyone else has it more together than you do. You feel overwhelmed and uncertain and it feels like you cannot get a break. You might be a teenager feeling anxious and overwhelmed keeping up with all of your responsibilities at school and home while still trying to find time to have a little bit of fun with your friends. Oh, and also get some sleep. Or maybe you're a parent of a child struggling with anxiety and you find yourself feeling more stressed out because you don't know how to make it better.

Looking for a therapist can be a daunting process - but it's a powerful step to seek help for yourself. You don't have to figure this out alone! You might find that your body is carrying the weight of your stress and traumas - you're functioning, but life's adversities are compounding this heaviness. You might be feeling burnt out, withdrawn, and stuck... Holding all of this together while juggling multiple different roles in life can be overwhelming and exhausting. Finding a safe, nonjudgmental space to be your authentic self can make this weight feel a little bit lighter.

My goal is to create a working environment that feels hopeful and offers you the clarity you are seeking. My work with you will have you feeling respected and involved in your own treatment goals.

My ideal clients are teens, college students, and adults who are overwhelmed or quietly struggling who share a special bond with an animal. For many that looks like holding everything together on the outside while privately wondering why nothing feels right. You might come to me when anxiety is running the show, when depression has made simple things feel heavy, or when life took a turn you didn't see coming. Whatever brought you here, I'm glad you came. We move at your pace, toward your goals, with your pet right beside you. My clients leave with real tools, more room to breathe, and a deeper bond with their comfort companion.

Hey, I'm Sage. I work with folks who experience the intersection between being Highly Intelligent/Gifted and having Autism/ADHD/OCD/other Neurodivergence, often referred to as being Twice-Exceptional (2E). Being 2E often comes with experiences of Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, and other mental health struggles, with even more complexity if you identify with Queer and/or Trans identities. My own personal experiences with these crossroads help me understand that a crucial part of working with the folks I do is being able to “just get it.” It is tough being 2E, and even tougher to find folks who intimately understand it.

As a trauma-informed certified life coach, I help clients create meaningful change and move toward the life they want. Unlike therapy, coaching focuses on personal growth, greater effectiveness, and helping you turn your goals and dreams into reality, rather than diagnosing or treating mental health conditions. Coaching and therapy can also complement one another, with each offering distinct forms of support. If you're curious whether coaching is the right fit for you, I invite you to book a complimentary Discovery Call.

Do you feel like you're carrying the weight of everyone else's needs while losing touch with your own? Perhaps you're overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, & the pressure of trying to do it all, yet still tell yourself you should be able to handle it. On the outside, you appear capable & successful. On the inside, you feel exhausted, disconnected from yourself, & unsure of what you truly want. Many of the women I work with have spent years caring for others, meeting responsibilities, & doing what they believed they were supposed to do. They feel stuck in survival mode, constantly giving to others while putting their own wants last.

I work with overwhelmed adults who have high standards for themselves, but feel stuck, burned out, or out of sync with the life they had planned. Many were diagnosed with ADHD or autism later in life, are living with disability, or navigating high-pressure roles. I help clients move forward using evidence-based therapy (ACT, CBT) to find clarity, reduce stress, and build stability.

My work is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based therapy that helps people understand the emotions and patterns beneath conflict and relational distress. I specialize in using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), helping partners move beyond distance, reactivity, and trauma to deeper trust, emotional safety, and secure connection. I structure my practice around 75-minute sessions because this work benefits from more time than a typical therapy hour allows. This gives us the space to slow down, understand the patterns that keep you stuck, and facilitate moments of connection and repair.

Many of the people I work with think deeply, feel deeply, and experience the world with a level of complexity that can be difficult to explain to others. They may have spent years feeling out of place, adapting to expectations that never quite fit, or holding themselves to rules they never agreed to. The clients I work best with are deeply curious people who want to understand themselves and the patterns that have shaped their lives. Many are neurodivergent, queer, gifted/formerly gifted, highly creative, or people with complex histories who have spent years feeling unseen or disconnected from themselves.

Our early life experiences shape our sense of who we are and our feelings of safety in relation to others. When something goes awry, we can struggle to understand who we truly are and what we need. We find maladaptive ways to ease pain, look to others to meet our needs, or isolate ourselves. If you are feeling overwhelmed by life's demands, experiencing adversity, or feeling stuck in old patterns, I would like to help you gain clarity. Through therapy, you can learn to identify and meet your own needs. You can uncover your innate capacity to find meaning and create joy in your life.

FAQ - Emotional Regulation Counseling
What are the signs that someone might struggle with emotional regulation?
Common signs that someone may struggle with emotional regulation include outbursts of strong emotion, such as anger or sadness, impulsive behavior, avoidance of difficult emotions, or extreme difficulty making decisions. People with emotional regulation difficulties may experience frequent mood swings or feel caught off guard by strong emotions. These experiences can affect personal, work, or school relationships, and may also contribute to or worsen mental health concerns.

How can therapy help with emotional regulation?
A therapist can help you understand emotional patterns and challenge automatic thoughts that may contribute to anger outbursts, impulsive behaviors, or other signs of emotion dysregulation. For instance, they may use worksheets, journaling exercises, or thought-reframing tools to help you identify triggers and respond differently. These activities often share the goal of creating more space between emotion and action. Over time, therapy can also help you recognize early warning signs of emotional distress before the emotions feel unmanageable.

Is emotional dysregulation a diagnosis?
Emotional dysregulation itself is not a diagnosis. Rather, it is a common symptom of several mental health conditions, such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder (BPD), and certain anxiety disorders. Therapy that helps improve emotional regulation can also help reduce the symptoms of related disorders. Emotional dysregulation is also often linked to life experiences such as trauma or childhood neglect. In some cases, these experiences may contribute to emotional regulation difficulties and increase the risk of developing mental health conditions.

What therapeutic approaches can help with emotion regulation?
Two common therapeutic approaches used to support emotion regulation are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). CBT helps people identify negative thoughts and thought patterns, with the goal of developing healthier ways of thinking and responding. DBT is related to CBT and was originally developed for borderline personality disorder, though it is now used for many other concerns. Emotion regulation is one of DBT’s “core skills,” alongside other skills like mindfulness and distress tolerance. Both CBT and DBT are skill-based, meaning that sessions focus on specific skills to manage emotions, such as thought records and problem-solving skills. This makes them different from traditional “talk therapy” approaches, as they place greater emphasis on learning and practicing specific strategies that can be used in moments of high emotional distress.

Can children and teens have therapy for emotional regulation?
Yes, children and teens, as well as adults, can benefit from therapy for emotional regulation. Many mental health concerns first appear in late childhood or adolescence, so therapy can help identify what may be part of normal development and what may require additional therapeutic support. Therapy can also help children and teens build lifelong emotional regulation skills. Learning these skills early can make it easier to use them during stressful or difficult situations later in life.
