I have special interest and experience with an array of concerns including anxiety, depression, stress,
relationship
issues, family issues, anger management, substance use, trauma, coping skills, adjustment issues, school/college concerns and forensic issues.
"I'm not going to tell you to get over it, I'm going to help you get through it." For over 20+ years I have guided individuals on their path towards healing, higher self-awareness, and overall wellness. Many of us struggle with feeling alone, left out, unheard, tired, unconnected, anxious, sad, or fearful. Therapy is a way to change those negative feelings and to address all of the "stuff" we have pushed so far down that we don't know where to start. And you don't have to do it alone.

"I prefer to think of my patients and myself as fellow travelers, a term that abolishes distinctions between 'them' (the afflicted) and 'us' (the healers). ... We are all in this together, and there is no therapist and no person immune to the inherent tragedies of existence." (Borrowed from Dr. Irvin Yalom). My practice makes possible the important work of self-evolution & growth in part due to my eclectic approach & focus on the unique matters of every individual. My lived experiences have greatly influenced my desire to
partner
with my fellow travelers as we do our 'work' and to do so intentionally and mindfully.

patterns that no longer feel like they work for you.
Now accepting new clients. Whether you have been thinking about coming to therapy recently or for a while, chances are there is something going on that is prompting you to do so. Perhaps it is a stressful job or
relationship
; or you may be struggling with anxiety or depression. Often, what may seem to be the "problem" on the surface is actually related to something on a deeper level. As your therapist, I will work with you to try and understand what this deeper level is about.

*Accepting new clients* You're so tired of arriving to therapy in "parts"--tell them this, don't tell them that, definitely don't tell them THAT... You are ready to show up as your full self, but it's also a terrifying thought so you hesitate to take that first step. What you DO know, however, is that you can't keep going like you have. It's stressful, and you're tired. You are ready to move from feeling like you're merely surviving to feeling like you are finally LIVING. During moments of struggle, we can decide to continue to suffer or launch into a new path towards healing. And you don't have to do it all alone.

Do you have trouble opening up to others? Is it difficult to talk about your feelings? Do you ever wonder why you have certain thoughts? It’s common for people to bottle up emotions and project their feelings onto others, but there is a healthier way to handle them. You are worth it! I work with people who have experienced depression, anxiety,
relationship
issues, and life transitions. I have a special interest in working with women in Midlife. I can help you navigate the challenges of feeling stuck, questioning your identity, and setting your priorities.

Accepting new clients! You feel "other" everywhere and anywhere you go. Managing day-to-day life is becoming more and more of a challenge. And just "managing" is no longer cutting it for you. You want to really SHOW UP. You want to arrive authentically. You want to THRIVE, instead of merely surviving. But you have no idea how to actually do that, and the idea of doing that has terrified you to the point of paralysis. Sometimes, you're not even sure who your "authentic self" is because you've never had a safe, nonjudgmental space to figure that out. A space where someone FINALLY doesn't tell you what to feel or how to live.

My twenty years in mental health care include helping individuals to address depression and anxiety, manage stress, survive trauma, move through grieving, practice self-care, confront
relationship
issues, and explore spiritual concerns.
**I am not currently accepting new clients** Each of us has intrinsic worth and our hearts and psyches have the ability to heal. My work with adults of all ages draws on the expressive arts, motivational and strengths-based therapies and cognitive behavioral and trauma-informed therapies. One of my passions has been exploring the ways in which the expressive arts - visual art, drama, music, movement, writing - touch us deeply and express emotions for which there may simply be no words. Where the response to suffering is compassion and hope, the goals of the individual - not the therapist - inspire the therapeutic process.

I’m passionate, firstly, about cultivating an authentic
relationship
with my clients.
You are never stuck. Counseling is about discovering options to help you shift out of overwhelming, uncomfortable places. I strive to help clients identify and meet their needs in a healthier way, set appropriate boundaries, navigate a crisis without destruction, and have support when ending or beginning a
relationship
or career. I believe that we are all impacted by our families of origin (and honestly, almost anyone and anything around us), but that doesn’t mean we need to be held hostage by the past OR the present. Your feelings matter. You matter. Let's work on getting unstuck.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
