As a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Divinity degree, I understand the need for some individual to seek Christian counseling for a variety of issues.
"The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power." OpenMind Wellness Counseling Services, LLC provides individual and group counseling to adolescents, adults, and older adults. I believe in incorporating an integrative, holistic approach to wellness, acknowledging the role mind-body-spirit play in the healing process. Healing is also promoted through the development of psychosocial areas of life: career, emotional, social, and interpersonal. My therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), including Christian- and spiritually-integrated CBT. I am a multicultural competent counselor. I am located in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh, and offer day, evening, and weekend hours.

I can also provide Christian counseling upon request to all ages.
Are you concerned about how sad or anxious your child is? Are you getting frequent calls from school regarding your child's behavior? Are you having issues communicating with your teenager? As a parent, it is difficult to see your child hurting. You child may be acting out at home and at school. Your teenager may lash out at you, leaving you wondering what happened. Or it may be more serious concerns regarding your child's unhealthy eating patterns, hurting themselves, or even considering suicide. You may be frustrated that you've tried everything but it just hasn't worked.

In 2019 I graduated from Missio Seminary with a Master of Arts in Christian Counseling .
In my personal life I wear many hats. I have been married to my husband Jeb for 20 years. We have three wonderfully-wild and amazing kids (a boy and two girls). I am a Christian and I have a deep meaningful relationship with God. I have navigated my own trauma and PTSD. Trauma can be very isolating. The process of healing from my own trauma is what led me want to walk alongside others who are struggling with their own darkest times. My hope as a therapist is that no one has to walk alone. I value the therapeutic alliance and it has been my greatest joy to watch many clients transition from surviving to thriving.

I believe in treating everyone with compassion and sensitivity, never knowing what someone might have experienced during their lifespan. This means that issues are viewed through the perspective "What has happened to you" as opposed to "What's wrong with you"--a trauma informed approach. I am likewise experienced with weight loss issues, stress management skills building, anxiety disorders, insomnia, relationship issues, and chronic health conditions.

I help those feeling overwhelmed and lost in life. This can be a frustrating, disheartening and lonely period in our lives. Sometimes we present to others one way but really feel uncertainty and disconnection with little to no understanding of why it is happening or what to do about it. Together we can work to navigate the stressors of life, find a sense of direction and build self confidence. Through our work together we will set and obtain the goals you have for yourself.

I Am Unable to Accept New Clients at this Time. Hi, I'm so grateful you're here! You're a hard-working, free-spirited, go-getter, but you struggle to strike harmony between your home-life, professional obligations, personal relationships, and mental health. You're often described as "strong" or having it "all together." Little do others know, you spend countless nights questioning your decisions and wondering if you're enough. You have the desire to been seen, heard, valued, and experienced without the pressure of perfection or performance. You're ready to learn how to be vulnerable with yourself and the people you love most.

While every counseling experience is unique, the team at Pittsburgh Pastoral Institute (PPI) seeks to provide an empathetic relationship in which individuals and families can safely and freely discuss their challenges and concerns in a holistic context carefully considering the mind, body, and soul in therapy. This is also a "person-centered" process in which the client determines the areas of exploration and discovery.

How can I find a therapist in Pittsburgh?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
