Accepting new clients! You feel like you've had your power and your voice taken away for your entire life. You are exhausted from not being seen as a human first. You are about to explode from so many years of hiding who you are, who you love, and what is pissing you off. You are ready to step into your power, but you have no idea how to start. Or maybe you do, but you need someone supporting you as you navigate all of the complex, heavy sh!t that is about to unfold. I want you to know that I see beyond your struggles and past choices. I want to empower you to embrace your entire self (yes, your ENTIRE self). You can do that here.

I specialize in helping lesbian,
bisexual
, pansexual, gay, trans, Two Spirit, intersex, queer, a romantic, & asexual people.
While my training in clinical psychology focused on making the right diagnosis and finding the right treatment, I also believe that, in most cases, the most essential and supportive element of psychotherapy is the therapeutic relationship itself, the success of which can depend on intangible qualities like warmth, trust, credibility, openness, rapport, alliance, and authenticity. I believe the process of building a successful therapeutic relationship requires the science of psychotherapy to give way to the art of being human, and so my approach to this process is unique to every individual, couple, and family I work with.

Therapy is about creating the life we want to live – a process of becoming who we know we already are. It is about being in relationship – with ourselves and with others. I provide a non-judgemental and empathetic environment for you to explore your experiences and to create meaningful, long-term change.

I view therapy not just as a way to address concerns or issues that one might have but as an opportunity to better understand yourself as a whole. When we take the time to explore how we act, think, and feel we are able to access new parts of ourselves and how we interact with others in our life. The process of therapy can be powerful. I can offer this opportunity for you to explore yourself and the things you want to change in your life in a setting that is safe, supportive, non-judgmental, & welcoming.

Accepting new clients! You feel "other" everywhere and anywhere you go. Managing day-to-day life is becoming more and more of a challenge. And just "managing" is no longer cutting it for you. You want to really SHOW UP. You want to arrive authentically. You want to THRIVE, instead of merely surviving. But you have no idea how to actually do that, and the idea of doing that has terrified you to the point of paralysis. Sometimes, you're not even sure who your "authentic self" is because you've never had a safe, nonjudgmental space to figure that out. A space where someone FINALLY doesn't tell you what to feel or how to live.

Accepting new clients! You're finding yourself spiraling into the abyss inside of your mind. Your anger seems to go from 0-100 out of no where. You feel like there is velcro sticking between you and your bed, and your limbs feel heavy as you manage to get through each day. You're absolutely exhausted from all of the "masking" you have to do to get through and "be a normal person". You're tired of not showing up in the way that you want to. You're tired of not being able to be authentic, and sometimes struggle to know what that even means for you. It all seems like too much to attempt to figure out on your own. So you just... don't.

My clinical focus is helping clients increase confidence, feel more fulfilled, and create satisfying relationships. I believe people have the inner power to heal and to grow; I can provide emotional support and guidance for those who are struggling with this process. My approach to psychotherapy is an integration of cognitive-behavioral therapy & expressive techniques (i.e., art, writing, yoga) within a trauma-informed model. More simply said, I assist clients in understanding how their experiences and perceptions impact their emotions and their stories of their lives, & how to change how they think and feel about themselves and others.

Due to my own lived experiences, I strive to create an affirming space for those who are fat, queer, polyamorous/non-monogamous, in/visibly disabled, gender-expansive, and/or expectant parents. Together, we will 1) gain a deeper understanding of your relationships to Self and others, 2) deconstruct systems & expand your knowledge of your own privileged & marginalized positions, and 3) learn about your attachment style & family systems position. Additionally, creatives who wish to expand our process beyond discussion and into music, poetry, and other expressive arts will find that those mediums can be interwoven into our work.

I believe that therapy is a co-created process meant to bring awareness within ourselves and our relationships to create meaningful change. I believe that everyone has the natural capacity to have a fulfilling and desired quality of life. Healing comes into play in order to meet life’s obstacles so that growth and integration can happen. I look at relative trauma as well as impact from larger systems. I use mind-body awareness practices to help bring alignment within authentic self. I work to bring non-judgement and trust as transformation occurs. I look to help you explore within yourself, in relationships, families, and society.

How can I find a therapist in Pittsburgh?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
