If you’re looking for a therapist, you're ready for something in your life to change. Are you tired of trying to figure things out on your own? Are you struggling with your important relationships? Do the people you usually turn to for guidance no longer seem to know how to help? Whatever brought you to this point, your regular ways of making yourself feel better are no longer enough to restore your peace of mind. You don’t need to deal with all of that alone.

Christopher Rauhoff works with people in need of regulating their focus, reducing anxiety, and managing their behavior in social, educational, and professional situations. Often, clients cannot gather their thoughts, are irritated by the world around them, and feel disconnected from others. Students report being unable to read with full comprehension, to understand assignments, able to organize the hundred activities that collide in the brain and that they feel are impossible to sort out. Many feel isolated and lonely at school.

Therapy for the ones who feel too much, think too fast, and know they’re meant for more. You’ve survived things no one knows how to name. You’re smart, sensitive, maybe even a little weird (in the best way). You’ve tried to hold it all together, but something’s cracking—and maybe that’s good. You’re looking for healing that’s real, not robotic. You want therapy that makes sense, helps you grow, and maybe even laugh sometimes. You want someone who gets it—who sees your fire and your shadows. You’re not just looking to “cope.” You’re here to transform.

I blend talk therapy with body-based and biofeedback methods.
Your system learned to hold itself together through tension—and that worked, until it didn't. Now strain shows up as anxiety, sleeplessness, a temper on a hair trigger, or a numbness you can't shake. I help adults release what they've been gripping and find an easier way to hold shape. I work with people facing career crossroads, relationship trouble, stress that's gone physical, or a sense that something needs to change. Together we slow down, listen to what's actually happening underneath, and let that signal guide us. You don't need to arrive with a diagnosis or a plan—just the sense that you're ready for the next step.

Throughout my 10 years working in mental health, I have learned how important it is to our healing to be connected in heart and body. I believe building a better understanding of this mind-body connection and the impact it can have on both our physical and mental health is critical in symptom management, emotional regulation, stress management, overall health and wellness, and navigating our everyday life in this world.

We start by helping your body feel safer through various approaches such as biofeedback, breathwork/meditation, and the Safe and Sound Protocol so your nervous system doesn’t have to work so hard.
Maybe chronic stress, anxiety, or trauma has your nervous system stuck on high alert, so that even when life is relatively stable, you don't actually feel that way. Maybe your past experiences show up now as hypervigilance, tension, irritability, insomnia, or shutting down. Maybe you're managing burnout, depression, relationship struggles, or patterns you just can't seem to shake. Maybe you're tired of merely surviving and ready to actually feel different. With a background in social justice, many of my clients are queer folks, activists, and others for whom identity/politics/systemic context are part of their story.

Many find themselves at a point in their lives where external support is necessary to navigate life's challenges. My clients seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Some may come to therapy to deal with a specific struggle, such as anxiety or depression, while others initiate therapy during a difficult life transition. Even positive transitions, such as getting a new job or starting a new relationship can be stressful. Together, we will merge our resources to address these challenges in a safe environment by exploring patterns, processing events from the past, and creating plans for change in the future.

Biofeedback Therapists
Can biofeedback help with anxiety?
Biofeedback is often used to treat anxiety, including generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Anecdotal evidence and some research studies have found that it can improve symptoms of these disorders, sometimes significantly; however, studies on biofeedback have typically been small and researchers have cautioned that many have significant limitations, such as limited follow-up or a lack of a control group.

Is biofeedback evidence-based?
There is some evidence that biofeedback can effectively treat certain conditions; for example, its efficacy in treating headaches and urinary incontinence is generally thought to be well-established. There is also promising, but less conclusive, evidence that it can aid in stroke recovery or help someone manage a mental health disorder such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD.

What is the difference between biofeedback and neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a type of biofeedback that measures brain activity specifically; it is typically used to treat psychological or neurodevelopmental concerns such as ADHD, depression, insomnia, or autism spectrum disorder. Biofeedback is a broader category that, in addition to neurofeedback, also includes electromyogram, heart rate variability, and thermal biofeedback, each of which measures a particular physiological function (muscle activity, heart rate, and skin temperature, respectively)

What are the limitations of biofeedback?
While biofeedback may be helpful for certain conditions, its efficacy is less assured for others, such as high blood pressure. People with certain health conditions such as heart arrhythmia may not be able to benefit from biofeedback because their condition may interfere with the machines’ readings. Biofeedback can also be time-consuming and costly, and may not be covered by health insurance.
