My goal is to make it comfortable for you to discuss your situations by providing an honest, non-judgmental atmosphere, while offering support and validation. Throughout my career, I have helped individuals cope with stress, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, as well as grief and loss, problems within family systems and relationships, and trauma-related issues. I have helped individuals dealing with addictions and substance abuse, and have also helped young adults in higher education transition to new environments and social settings.

I work with adults dealing with anxiety, depression, addiction , relationship stress, parenting, ADHD, identity exploration, assertive communication, self-esteem, and grief.
Asking for help or support can be scary. Making that step to get therapy takes a great deal of strength. Therapy gives people the opportunity to develop effective and healthy responses to life's stressors. I work to create a safe holding environment to allow you to feel comfortable being yourself. I work with clients to help them develop awareness over their behaviors, thoughts, patterns, and feelings. I like to get to the source rather than just focus on the symptoms.

"Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at the moment." Eckhart Tolle ~ If you are having life struggles, let's talk more and see how I may help you along this journey called life. I feel a strong therapeutic relationship is the best predictor of success in therapy. I believe therapy should be collaborative and tailored to your needs. If you think I can help you along your path, please call and we can talk more.

But while my perspective has been shaped primarily through the addiction model, I haven't limited myself to working solely with addicts and other members of addictive family systems.
Accepting new clients beginning March 1, 2023 . The symbol that I use to represent my practice is that of a Butterfly, which symbolizes an experience of liberation and transformation. I am inspired by working with individuals and families who desire to transcend historic personal and interpersonal limitations in order to embrace a richer experience of life. I have learned that human beings carry within them the ability to heal and live well. My purpose is to guide you into your own resources and facilitate the emergence of a new awareness about yourself and your relationship with the world around you.

Step by Step support offers both group and individual therapy so individuals may work out the underlying causes of their addiction problems in a comfortable and constructive environment. Individual therapy works to identify thoughts and behaviors that lead to substance abuse. Group therapy allows clients to work together on common experiences they share through their recovery and feedback with peer-to-peer input. Therapy includes: Family, Anger Management, and Interventions. We can also provide help with interventions, links to other resources in the recovery community, DUI assessments, and forensic assessments.

I have experience working with clients struggling with addiction , behavioral issues, domestic violence, terminal illness, and chronic pain.
The hardest step to starting therapy is finding a therapist you feel comfortable with. Building a therapeutic relationship is a vulnerable process; sharing thoughts and emotions you might not even know within yourself. I believe I can be there to support and listen to you along your journey of self discovery and healing. Life is filled with many “bumps in the road” that present as challenges for us. This can result in feeling lost, frustrated, and confused. I am here to stand with you while tackling these obstacles from a non judgmental view.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason, “interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
