These young adults may struggle with moving forward due to unresolved childhood trauma, or an individual may struggle to establish better boundaries within their interpersonal/intimate relationships, or even an individual struggling to meet their goals due to a substance use disorder they are facing.
Each individual is the expert in their own life. Therefore, I will always meet you where you are in your healing journey. I lead with a person-centered approach, allowing the patient to remain autonomous and provide a safe space for self-exploration. I also assist with understanding the meaning of issues or concerns presented through existentialism.

I have helped people resolve depression, anxiety, substance use issues, and relationship troubles.
Are you sad or worried? Do you struggle with feeling not good enough in your work or with your relationships? Sometimes it seems that these feelings emerge without explanation, yet other times it feels like these feelings have been with you for years. Having these feelings or difficult memories can leave you feeling lonely, stuck, and isolated. I want to support you and help you to move forward into a happier life.

My current focus areas include life transitions, immigration, intercultural relationships, parenting, substance use, and the mental health of university students.
As a psychoanalyst with twelve years of clinical experience, I can work with you to analyze your life experiences and the unconscious determinations that may be keeping you stuck in some ideas and negative affects. An important aspect of my practice is creating a safe space where you can express yourself freely and work through your thoughts and feelings, while I actively listen, ask questions, and dialogue with you until unheard possibilities arise. Psychoanalysis shows us that words carry the extraordinary power to change not only symptoms but also bodies and perspectives.

I primarily work with adult and teenage individuals & specialize in anxiety, depression, substance use, self-esteem, and relationship & adjustment issues.
I believe that healing starts with a strong therapeutic relationship and focus on establishing an accepting, warm environment filled with trust and free of judgement. This foundational relationship and your courage and willingness allow for deep exploration into your inner world. As a client, you will take an active role in the therapeutic process and together, we'll aim to awaken the autopilot that many of us default to and move towards living life more intentionally and authentically. Through compassionate and curious exploration, we will bring mindful awareness to patterns that may be interfering with your life.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
