However in recent years I have been incorporating such modalities as ACT therapy mindfulness and attachment based techniques.
I have a small practice which affords me the opportunity to to spend time and effort thinking about what techniques would be of most help to you. I am only seeing people via telehealth

Interventions I use are mindfulness, solution focused, trauma focused, and cognitive behavioral therapy modalities.
If you're looking for a therapist because of depression, anxiety, stress, or difficulty adapting to a new season in life whether that's related to work, school, relationships, parenting, loss/grief, or a new medical diagnosis, I am here to help. I view therapy as a safe, non-biased, and non-judgmental place to express your thoughts and feelings. A place where one can seek clarity, peace, and healing.

Regardless of diagnosis, I believe in treating clients holistically, focusing additionally on physical health and mindfulness.
Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and/or addiction? My ideal client is open to gaining insight into behavior patterns and problematic coping skills. I am kind & non-judgmental, but not afraid to give clients a little (figurative) nudge when necessary. I have experience working with all kinds of problems & diagnoses, both inpatient and outpatient, as well as individual and group settings. The majority of my experience lies in dual diagnosis treatment, working with clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use diagnoses.

I work with clients using cognitive-behavioral therapy & mindfulness, so we try to understand various factors blocking or helping your growth in terms of personal history, values, beliefs, and behaviors.
I will work with you to capitalize on your strengths and help you identify and move beyond unhelpful mental and behavioral patterns lurking in your blind spots. Rather than talk endlessly about your problems, we will instead use various empirically supported techniques to step back from your problems and explore new behavioral and belief options that better correspond to your key goals and values. Then you'll practice these new perspectives and strategies at home in your real life until they feel more natural. **Please phone me first as I do not always have daily email access.

I offer an eclectic approach to therapy including EMDR, IFS Informed, Mindfulness, CBT, and Insight-Oriented work that is tailored to fit each individual client.
Having the tools we need to navigate our way through life's challenges is often the key to greater happiness and fulfillment. I believe that human beings start from a place of health and resilience. When we have difficult or traumatic experiences, we can often be sidetracked by self-doubt, anxiety, depression and more. This can make life and relationships feel overwhelming, confusing and at times unmanageable. Therapy provides a safe space to explore and understand ourselves better while also developing the tools we need to move forward. Through this process, we can begin to heal from the past while creating a more intentional future.

My varied experience, training and education prepared me to use an integrative therapeutic approach that draws on cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and ecological systems theory.
It would be my pleasure to work with you! My name is Kim Sylla and I have been interested in the field of social services since childhood when I enthusiastically listened to the life stories of those around me including friends, neighbors and extended relatives. This interest grew with with my first therapist volunteer experience - at the age of 20 - with individuals who had substance use and mental health disorders. Since then I have had a wide array of additional volunteer and work experiences with adults and adolescents undergoing various life challenges at work, school, home and in the larger community.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
