You are tired of feeling anxious and of not living the life you want. It’s tricky- you know you’re hard on yourself, and you know that pressure makes change more difficult. Breathe. I know you can build a healthier relationship with yourself. Anxiety and low self-worth can improve, and they do not have to stop you from experiencing a meaningful and well-lived life. Worries show up for everyone, but they don’t have to dictate what you do. You want to relate to yourself in new and helpful ways. My practice welcomes all identities. I’ll work side-by-side with you from a trauma-informed, social justice and mindfulness lens.

From there, I use a variety of modalities: EMDR, CBT, somatic interventions, and mindfulness techniques.
Therapy can be both an immensely enriching and a challenging process, while the process of finding a therapist- one who is a good fit for you- well, that is usually just challenging. How to begin, when there are just so many options? My suggestion for you: take a deep breath, take your time, and trust your instincts. It is the counseling relationship- rather than a specific theoretical orientation or modality- that allows for lasting therapeutic change. We humans heal in relationship.

In addition to trauma work, I treat anxiety and depression utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, psychodynamic approaches, mindfulness , and psychoeducation.
* I am not currently accepting new clients.* Our life experiences affect how we view the world and our confidence in navigating through it. Therapy provides an opportunity to examine how these life experiences strengthen and challenge us. Experiencing a traumatic event can cause the world to feel like a dangerous place and result in feeling incompetent in handling daily life tasks. Addressing trauma in therapy can decrease fear and increase confidence in regaining control of your life.

I am an integrative practitioner, informed by modalities that focus on nervous system regulation, such as polyvagal theory and somatic mindfulness approaches.
You struggle to name how you're feeling or what exactly is "wrong"; all you know is that you're exhausted, overwhelmed, and ready for something to change. Although some things may be difficult to speak about, we all face hardship - it certainly has a way of finding us! Whether you're trying to make sense of past trauma, navigating relationship and family challenges, or living in the aftermath of a significant loss, I work with the belief that healing happens when we are seen, heard, and given a compassionate space to grow.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
