I am a
marriage
and family therapist and certified yoga instructor.
It is a mystery as to why things happen to us. It becomes even more complex as to how we will heal. Sometimes the emotional pain can become too difficult to get through alone and we often seek additional help. Whether you're suffering from a loss of a loved one, a
marital
conflict, stress, anxiety, or even PTSD, there is still hope. I believe that true healing comes from healthy attachments to self and others, meaningful mind-body connections, and by gaining better control over your thoughts, emotions and physical being.

As a Licensed
Marriage
and Family Therapist with almost 20 years of experience, I specialize in working with anxiety, eating disorders, men's issues, and high functioning multiracial couples and families.
Despite your best intentions and efforts, do you feel stuck in your personal life, intimate relationships, family relationships or workplace? You may be faced with challenges that are deeply rooted in your early life experiences, your primary attachments, in how you view the world, or due to misunderstanding between you and significant others. Challenges can arise during stressful life transitions, such as divorce or death of loved ones. But they can also arise from positive life experiences, such as
marriage
or the birth of a child. Left untreated, these challenges can grow into chronic problems that can corrode your sense of self and your relationships.

I am a systemically trained and licensed
Marriage
and Family Therapist offering individual, couple, and family therapy. My clients seek support around a myriad of concerns - most common among them are: depression, anxiety, loss, attachment trauma, oppression-based trauma, identity exploration/conflict, racial identity, family/relational conflict, and emotional dysregulation. Clients come to me to deconstruct beliefs about themselves and the world that are no longer serving them and instead creating chaos, dysfunction, and pain. Through our work together, they're able to live more fulfilling lives.

In addition to my regular license, I am a MFT (
Marriage
and Family Therapist).
There are those times in our lives when our discomfort with ourselves or others, just becomes too uncomfortable and you need to take an action that would solve the problem once and for all. Psychotherapy is that action. Confiding in someone who is respectful and competent, in that they can clarify your issues, right from the first session, can make your stress, no matter how high the stress, seem solvable. I am that therapist.
Once clarity is reached, understanding and solving problems follow. Individual, couple or full family issues are addressed.

I’m a Licensed
Marriage
and Family Therapist with years of experience working with individuals and couples through high conflict, mental health challenges, sexual intimacy concerns, and emotional distance.
Relationships are, by their nature, both wonderful and challenging. The fights, miscommunications and boundaries not being respected. The power struggles and criticism. The emotional distance and loss of intimacy. Whether the relationship is with a partner, a friend, family, or even the relationship with ourselves, the impact can be far-reaching. Mental health challenges, low self-worth, questioning identities, sexual dysfunction and trauma can become interconnected or result from the state of our relationships. Better communication, an improved sex life, increased self worth, and reduced anxiety are all achievable in our work.

How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
