I work with individuals and couples, often working with developmental transition, interpersonal conflict and relationships, depression, anxiety,
family
and systems issues.
I enjoy the diversity of my clients, walking with adults of all ages and backgrounds. Since 2011 I have turned into the joys of psychotherapy after being primarily a pastor for many years. I wait for my clients to introduce faith into our process together and do not have preconceived notions about how therapy should work or where you should end up. I see my main job as listening carefully, mirroring your process with empathy and helping you move toward the goals you set, whether they are about reaching deeper inside or moving into the practical steps you need to take next week.

I draw upon the commonly known evidenced-based modalities, but I mostly enjoy working somatically (the body and nervous system) and “parts” (internal
family
systems).
I collaborate with complex people who are deeply yearning to be met within their complexities. Those who find me are looking for a greater sense of direction and relief from their lived experiences with different kinds of trauma, anxiety, depression, mood instability, panic, relational injury/stress, challenging life transitions, addiction, identity confusion, and existential angst. What they want more than anything is a kind of support that will be restorative, reparative, and memorable; a space they can be unequivocally themselves without backlash.

I have been trained in Ecosystemic Structural
Family Therapy
, which encourages looking at environments and surroundings to determine areas for improvement, support, or strengths.
I view therapy like a road trip: some parts are fun, some are not, but in the end you get to where you need to go. You are the driver and have the control but we are on the journey together. I will be there, in the passenger seat, to help reroute if we get detoured... and try to help us avoid the potholes! It’s your hard work, though, that gets us to the destination. I have found that creating a genuine connection makes all the difference in where we can go together in treatment, so let’s get this trip started!

You are pregnant again, but the excitement isn’t there. You feel anxiety before your OB appointments and try to make sure you are prepped enough to ask all the questions you need to. More stress keeps coming up. The thought of announcing your pregnancy and each new pregnancy symptom brings anxiety. You can’t help but wonder what will happen if you lose this baby too. No one seems to understand. It hurts to hear your
family
and friends encouraging you to forget about your loss and move on. You are wondering if you will ever get to experience the joy of pregnancy and bringing home your baby.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
