My approach is a mix of modern contextual family therapy, narrative therapy, and existential therapy.
Life is often messy and chaotic. It can bring us any number of challenges. Grief, anxiety, depression, or loneliness. We may experience conflict in our relationships or a crisis with our self-esteem. Perhaps we lose our way or have yet to find a purpose. Our faith, our resiliency, and our tolerance all get tested along the way. I work with couples, individuals, and families, using an integrative approach that takes into consideration all the factors at play in our lives. The goal is to heal wounds, strengthen resiliency, help you foster better relationships, and gain some self-knowledge along the way.

My work is guided by an integrative, collaborative model, incorporating various modalities such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems (parts work), Narrative Therapy, and Polyvagal Theory.
Are you finding yourself stuck in the same relational loop? Are your insecurities preventing you from moving forward? Do you struggle to set and vocalize boundaries, wants, and needs? Do you live with negative self-talk? You’re in the right place. In sessions, we will investigate some of the root causes of the patterns in your life and relationships, and strive for self-discovery and self-growth. I will help you to identify and ultimately challenge negative self-talk that has likely impacted your view of self and led to negative coping behaviors.

I also draw upon training in CBT, Family Systems, trauma treatment and more than 40 years of clinical experience.
Relationships are my expertise, especially issues of broken trust, poor communication, intimacy and addiction. There is no "perfect partner", but intimate partnerships should be a source of joy, safety and support. Whether you are dating or engaged, married or contemplating divorce, "straight" or LGBTQIA, monogamous or poly, kinky or vanilla, Millenial or retired, you CAN feel understood by one another with deep, joyful connection! With over 40 years of experience, my clinical toolbox is full of skills and concepts that will move you forward together. (Telehealth only. Sorry, no insurance accepted but receipts provided OON.)

Clinically, I pull from a variety of modalities including person-centered, cognitive behavioral therapy, internal family systems, and emotion focused.
If you're scrolling through these pages, something in life has pushed you to decide to seek support. Maybe you're a new parent, struggling to process recent birth trauma while also figuring out how to take care of the new little life in your arms. Perhaps you've been able to manage symptoms of ADHD well enough until recently, and suddenly the overwhelm and executive dysfunction is becoming too much of a challenge to navigate alone. Anxiety, ADHD, depression, postpartum and parenting...all of these can lead us to feel isolated and alone sometimes, struggling to figure out how to cope. You don't have to figure it out alone; welcome!

My approach draws from my training in sex therapy, family systems, psychodynamic and cognitive therapies as well as hypnosis and EMDR.
While the therapy hour is important, a major component of change occurs during the other 167 hours of the week. So I work with you to tailor homework and homeplay that will augment the therapy hour and help you make progress on your own.

I serve mothers, couples, and extended family throughout the prenatal, pregnancy, and postpartum journey.
In a world that can feel increasingly polarized, our conversations make a difference in how we go on. Each interaction has the possibility of bringing us closer together or pushing us further apart. As we feel more understood, respected and capable, we can turn towards ourselves and one another with more compassion and capacity for connection. We can bring more curiosity to our contradictions and complexities.

I've worked with many people who seek help to decrease or eliminate troublesome emotions or behaviors that get in the way of their personal, family/relationship or occupational aspirations.
We work as partners in an alliance to help you specifically achieve the goals of therapy you planned at the start. Having acquired new knowledge and practice using your insights, reasoning, and critical analysis skills, it will not be difficult to regulate your emotions by challenging and changing any unpleasant or distressful emotional concerns.

I have worked with people across the life span in individual, group, and family therapy contexts.
NOTE: I am not able to take clients at this time. My clients might struggle with depression or anxiety...perhaps struggle with life transitions...or maybe need help in balancing their daily life with the demands that their recovery requires. Eating disorders, personality disorders, addictions, and Complex PTSD require skilled support for true recovery to be achieved. I love working with clients who embrace their autonomy in this process and are ready to do the work! I believe you already have everything within you that is required for you to thrive. I'm here to help you tap into it :-)

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
