At the core, I believe we all want to feel loved, heard, and understood. However, there may be things getting in the way of what we want, such as trauma, family influences, and societal messaging. My goal is to co-create a space with you (and your partner) that is affirming of your unique background and experiences. We can explore where you’re feeling stuck and how to create new opportunities for healing, intimacy, and connection. I work with individuals and couples of all backgrounds but have particular interest and experience in the queer, poly/CNM, and Black communities.

My therapy style is based on psychodynamics, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and internal family systems.
Whether it is trauma, depression, anxiety, OCD, identity issues, ADHD, relationship problems, or anything in between that you are currently struggling with, it would be my pleasure to guide and help you through it. It may be a challenge sometimes to find a therapist who can meet your needs, which is why, in my opinion, the first and most important goal to accomplish together is a strong rapport. This will pave the way for you to have an environment that you can feel comfortable in, and for us to make progress in whichever area in your life that you need help and support with.

My typical client is trying their best to navigate their lives and feels thrown off course by symptoms of ADHD, depression, anxiety, grief, family conflict or self doubt.
Finding a therapist can be hard and prioritizing yourself can be even harder. You may be seeking support for feeling overwhelmed, disorganized, or trying to balance too much at once. Every person has different strengths and challenges although many environments aren't also set up to support everyone. People experience guilt or shame because they think they aren't living up to personal or societal expectations. It can effect how you feel about yourself, your work and your relationships. It's hard to know where to start and that's why I'm here. We will explore what it is that you want and how to individualize strategies for you.

At TAFT Psychological Services, the goal is to provide the highest quality care to you, your children and your family .
Every client and therapist pairing is different. Not every pairing will fit as well as others and the goal of every therapeutic relationship is for the therapist to act as a competent and supportive guide in navigating each client's map of unique challenges in life. I believe that the most important aspect of the relationship is the ability to be honest about the process--what works will differ for everyone. I aim to tailor treatment to each client so that he or she leaves the office feeling heard, understood and confident about the therapeutic journey.

My background includes LGBTQ individuals and families who experience anxiety, depression, loss, trauma, PTSD and family conflict.
I believe we should all have access to a space where we can be open and honest with who we are and what we need to thrive. It is important to me that I support individuals in cultivating such a space with safety and freedom of feelings, thoughts and emotions. We all deserve a chance to thrive in life and find some sense of peace and understanding of experiences that make us who we are. I am here to challenge any notions that you cannot be your best self and find solace in that.

Life hasn't been easy on you but you've managed to get to where you are through will and perseverance. You are kind to others, and a giver, but you find yourself unable to be kind to yourself in the same way. Do you find yourself numbing your feelings or feel like there's just too much on your plate? Do you feel like there's something wrong with you but are afraid to let others see it? Do you feel that there must be so much more to life and you just can't find your joy? Or perhaps you experience anxiety, difficulties in relationships, loneliness, disconnection and depression.

I primarily draw from Internal Family Systems, Narrative, & Gottman therapies in my work, as well as specializing in working with LGBTQ+ clients.
My clients come to me because they want to deepen and strengthen their relationships - not just with each other, but with themselves. They want to understand the family and societal systems that shaped them into who they are today, and to heal old wounds and trauma so that they can move forward from a place of strength, healing, and connection. Many of my clients exist at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities, and have struggled to find a therapist who will understand and not further stigmatize their identities, and who is committed to unlearning systems of oppression. I seek to provide a healing space for them.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
