I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD using a relational lens. My therapist vibe is "professional friend" and while we will explore heavy, painful topics, therapy is not going to be a huge bummer the whole time. We will joke, we will riff, we will come up for air. No matter what you're going through, or have faced in the past, I sincerely believe that healing is possible and would be honored to support you on that journey.

Our symptoms—whether anxiety, depression, fear, or unresolved pain—are more than just obstacles; they are messengers. They point to unmet longings and hidden parts of ourselves waiting to be explored. I believe even our most difficult patterns hold a kind of inner intelligence and that through careful exploration we can find greater meaning in our lives. Together our work will support you in deepening your self-knowledge so that you can uncover new ways to cope with life’s challenges. By weaving your history, feelings, thoughts, and desires into new insight, we'll create a space for clarity and possibility to emerge.

Do you feel like you’re failing at a "script" you never signed up for? When you find yourself in the space between rejecting old scripts but not yet knowing what your new scripts will be, the weight of the unknown can be paralyzing. Most challenges are fueled by a fear of being 'wrong.' I help you move past those 'right' and 'wrong' binaries and develop a deep relationship with your own intuition. When you are no longer fighting yourself, you have the energy to truly connect with others.

Do you feel like your life isn't quite where you imagined it would be? You're not alone. Many of us long for deeper connection, a sense of peace and satisfaction, but struggle to achieve this. Together, we’ll explore what maybe holding you back. I help adults navigate relationships with emotionally immature parents/adults and life transitions (e.g. college/post grad, perimenopause/menopause, caregiver for parents).

So many of us deal with anxiety and unresolved trauma on top of the stressors of everyday life. I believe that everyone deserves an individualized approach that takes their external environment, current lifestyle, and relationships into account. We will work together to explore your past experiences, and how they impact the way you feel and behave in the present. We'll uncover beliefs you've developed about yourself, and how these influence your relationship to the world around you.

Whether you're needing help with finding balance in your life, trying to cope with a difficult past, or not even sure what you want to work on but you know you need support right now, we can work together at a pace that feels right. Starting therapy can be intimidating so I try to create a calm space by using a combination of empathy, nonjudgment, and, at times, humor. Some of my clients have described my style as compassionate and supportive while also being honest and direct.

I believe that each of us deserves to develop a rich, full understanding of ourselves and find deep affirming connection to that self and others. While the process of self-inquiry can be challenging, I hold the space to safely explore aspects of self that might feel uncomfortable, with the goal of building a positive, authentic relationship with yourself and others. As a licensed professional counselor and board-certified music therapist, I collaborate with individuals and couples to cultivate increased self-awareness and self-acceptance while building tools to better cope with life’s challenges.

People often come to therapy looking for a space where their experiences, culture, and identity are truly seen and welcomed. As a first-generation immigrant of Lebanese descent with Muslim heritage, I am attuned to what it feels like to live between cultures and to the pressures, expectations, and questions of belonging that can come with that experience. Sharing cultural touchpoints can create a sense of ease, allowing clients to show up fully without needing to translate their background or upbringing. I work with adults, teenagers, and couples to explore identity and navigate familial and cultural dynamics.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
