I often describe myself as an eclectic therapist with a vast repertoire of modalities and interventions. While yes, I am the professional in the room, you are the professional with in your life. I aim to identify and strengthen tools clients already have to assist in the therapeutic process.

We all experience challenges in our lives. My goal for over two decades has been to assist people with working through the many stressors that we face on a daily basis. From anxiety, depression, various forms of trauma, to improving self-love and self-care, I enjoy helping BIPOC women find ways to balance their lives and heal holistically. Many of us have struggled with negative self-talk, oftentimes impacting our ability to act. I would love to assist you with realigning your mind/body/spirit to a healthier way of thinking and living.

Peace and blessings - balancing work and life, experiencing difficult emotions, remembering traumas, and many other challenges are all valid experiences that I guide clients to move through. I believe we cater to our emotions by meeting them gently, connecting with our body, and meeting ourselves where we are. I am committed to holistic healing and am passionate about connecting the mind, body, and soul to increase our understanding of ourselves. I am open to incorporating a faith-based approach for those interested and believe that somatic, systemic, artistic, and trauma-informed modalities can create a path to deep healing.

Hope and healing are the two primary feelings or realities I desire as a counselor to impart upon my clients as well as to the general population. The world is getting more and more confusing, life is getting harder, the weight of the responsibilities we all carry is getting heavier...Let's talk about it. As a Christian woman of color, my practice is influenced by my beliefs and experiences thus far which I believe to be a benefit in my mission to help you access the blessing that is the breakthrough. I look forward to being a part of your journey towards hope and healing.

As a Board-Certified Dance/ Movement Therapist, I use movement, body awareness, and creative expression to explore the mind-body connection and support a sense of wholeness.
I view my work as supporting bodies in transition - in whatever form that comes. Many of my clients face the impact that physical change has on their mental and emotional well-being through illness, life-transitions, and loss. I hold space for the experience of medical trauma; chronic, progressive, and advanced illness; chronic pain; birthing bodies; end-of-life care, and grief. Transitions show up throughout our daily lives - not just the big moments. I also work with neurodivergence, depression, anxiety and relationship concerns to address the needs of the whole person and find creative approaches to authentic self-expression.

Dance Movement Therapy

What can I expect from dance/movement therapy?

During dance therapy, the therapist will guide the client through dance movements that metaphorically represent a particular challenge, reflect their internal emotional state, or otherwise express physically what is happening for the client mentally. The therapist may “mirror” the client’s movements or simply observe. The client may be encouraged, as they dance, to pay attention to their breath or other physical sensations. Afterward, the therapist and client will often debrief to help the client process the experience.

Is dance/movement therapy evidence-based?

A small body of research has found that dance therapy can help treat conditions like depression, PTSD, anxiety, and eating disorders, as well as nonclinical issues like low self-esteem or family conflict. However, some experts caution that the evidence in favor of dance therapy is not as robust as that of other, more established therapies, and some of the published research is of low quality. Many recommend that dance therapy be used as a complementary rather than stand-alone treatment.

Can dance therapy help with depression?

Some research suggests that dance/movement therapy can aid in the treatment of depression, especially when combined with other therapies; some studies, for example, report that dance therapy combined with antidepressants or talk therapy is more effective than those treatments alone. The positive effects of dance therapy may come from the movement itself, as it’s well-known that physical activity can improve mood and bolster motivation in those struggling with depression.

What are the limitations of dance therapy?

People with disabilities or other conditions that hinder movement may find it more challenging to participate in dance therapy, though a well-trained therapist will take a client’s physical limitations into account when designing a treatment plan. Experts also warn that certain conditions, particularly eating disorders, should never be treated with dance therapy alone; it may, however, be used as an adjunct therapy.
