Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists in Philadelphia, PA
Welcome! You are taking a brave step toward healing by coming here. I work with individuals of diverse identities with any amount of desire to understand their true selves. We all experience shades of anxiety and depression, some stronger than others. Some folks want change through learning skills. Others appreciate an accepting, safe space that challenges them while also providing objectivity and empathetic support. Some are still unsure why they're even thinking about starting therapy, and yet still have the willingness to show up. Most of the time, it's a mixture of all 3.

I have extensive experience working with borderline personality disorder, complex trauma, and navigating the often stressful dating world!
When we are on our way towards healing, we may face many roadblocks: past trauma, invalidating environments, views of ourselves, among many others. While we are hard-wired to heal, it can be hard to do so when there are many factors getting in the way of our journey towards peace. Maybe standard talk therapy or CBT has not been helpful for you in the past, and you feel stuck. My passion is working with survivors of trauma or chronically invalidating environments who hope to build a life worth living. I enjoy bringing laughter, memes, tiktoks, and swearing into sessions when appropriate. To me, authenticity is the key to progress!

As a Licensed Professional Counselor & DBT therapist, I specialize in the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder, debilitating anxiety & panic.
Your relationships are falling apart, you’re anxious all of the time, and your life has become an out-of-control mess. You wonder why relationships have to be so hard and cause you so much pain. People just don’t get it. They don’t get that when you’re hurt, your emotions take over and consume you. You’d literally do anything to not feel that way. In fact, when you have, you ended up feeling even worse and pushing those very same people away. You’re so desperate for people’s approval and terrified that if they ever found out what you’re really like, they wouldn’t want you anymore.

In my practice (in Philadelphia and New York) I offer a welcoming setting and provide a safe space for your pain or difficulties. When you speak about yourself to someone who is trained to listen and examine the circumstances that motivated your consultation, a change occurs. A psychoanalyst is a person trained to hear what is happening under the surface, and provides a place where you may speak and hear yourself differently. I have been working as a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist for 30+ years and I have found that words can hurt, words can make people sick, but words can also save. Talking cures.

I have a particular interest in working with individuals with borderline personality disorder ( BPD), and/or those looking to explore interpersonal relationship concerns, attachment dynamics, and/or work on emotion regulation, self-harm, substance use, and/or impulsivity.
Hello! My approach to therapy is one of collaboration, fostering trust, and building a strong, authentic, and safe relationship with each other. I see therapy as a process, and not so much as a destination. During this process, many emotions can unfold—ones that you may be familiar with, and ones that may have felt far away. Together, I hope to create an environment where we can begin to explore anything and everything that comes to mind and heart, and see where we can make some connections between past and present along the way without judgement.

Deep down, you want steadiness, clarity, and a more compassionate relationship with yourself. I specialize in trauma therapy, EMDR, DBT, and parts work, supporting adults who are ready to move beyond coping and toward lasting change. My approach is warm, collaborative, and paced with care.

Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists
What is the most successful approach to treating borderline personality disorder?
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for borderline personality disorder. An evidence-based treatment, it addresses the extreme emotional reactivity, the relationship difficulties, and the acts of self-harm that create so much distress for BPD patients. DBT is a comprehensive program that includes both regular individual psychotherapy sessions and weekly group sessions of skills training.
What happens in treatment of borderline personality disorder?
Treatment typically consists of weekly individual therapy sessions that last an hour and group skill-focused instructional sessions that may last up to two hours. Patients are typically given homework “assignments” in which they are asked to practice in their daily life the skills they acquire in therapy. Patients also keep a diary tracking their emotions and impulses as a way to know which situations are most problematic and to help them gain control over their own behavior. Difficult situations and feelings are typically reviewed in therapy sessions and more constructive solutions found.
What kinds of problems does BPD treatment help with?
DBT was initially developed to dampen the self-destructive impulses of chronically suicidal patients. It is now the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, a serious condition marked by extreme emotional reactivity, relationship instability, and self-injurious behaviors. Treatment of BPD helps patients tolerate the flux of emotions without acting on them, often with a specific focus on tolerating negative emotions. DBT addresses the core problems of BPD—fear of abandonment, low self-esteem, and impulsivity.
What is the goal of treatment in borderline personality disorder?
The goal of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is to relieve the extreme emotional distress that patients experience—to curb their emotional reactivity, to minimize their inclination to self-harm, and to reduce their impulsivity. Toward these ends, patients are not only taught an array of new coping skills and techniques for emotional regulation, they are given opportunities to practice them. Another major goal of treatment is interpersonal effectiveness; patients learn and problem-solve ways to effectively communicate in relationships, especially how to ask for what they need as a way to minimize hurt feelings.
