I help clients work through trauma using a combination of talk therapy, EMDR, and HRV biofeedback.
Many of the people I work with are veterans, first responders, and adults who have lived for long periods under high stress or responsibility. Chronic tension, burnout, emotional distance, and difficulty slowing down are common and understandable responses to trauma and sustained pressure. Clients may notice hypervigilance, emotional numbing, or feeling disconnected from themselves or others. Therapy focuses on stabilizing the nervous system, reducing trauma-related symptoms, and rebuilding a sense of internal safety so life can feel more present, meaningful, and sustainable.

As a potential client, I am interested in learning what it is you want and need, as well as your goals and how you believe a therapist may be of help to you. Then I can explain to you more details about how I might conceptualize your treatment, and come to an understanding together just how we can best proceed to improve your health. I am trained and experienced in the following modalities: Mindfulness based cognitive-behavioral therapy, schema therapy, trauma processing (EMDR), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, and pain management. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Many find themselves at a point in their lives where external support is necessary to navigate life's challenges. My clients seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Some may come to therapy to deal with a specific struggle, such as anxiety or depression, while others initiate therapy during a difficult life transition. Even positive transitions, such as getting a new job or starting a new relationship can be stressful. Together, we will merge our resources to address these challenges in a safe environment by exploring patterns, processing events from the past, and creating plans for change in the future.

I have been a therapist for over 10 years but worked in the mental health field for about 17 years. I believe that a holistic approach to mental health is the most useful. I enjoy working with individuals to explore their feelings and process external and internal issues to come to a place of acceptance and self-compassion. All of us have things in our lives that didn’t cause the trauma but trigger it, I can help you overcome these triggers.

At Sankofa Healing Studio, we honor the truth that healing is not linear—and for many, it begins after disconnection, survival, or silence. If you’re navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, major life transitions, or the weight of systemic injustice—including racialized harm—we’re here. Our therapists offer culturally rooted, justice-informed care that centers your insight, autonomy, and ancestral wisdom. We hold space for those impacted by racism-based trauma, generational wounding, identity stressors, and the grief of navigating systems not built for our thriving—while nurturing joy, truth, liberation, and embodied healing.

Biofeedback Therapists
Can biofeedback help with anxiety?
Biofeedback is often used to treat anxiety, including generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Anecdotal evidence and some research studies have found that it can improve symptoms of these disorders, sometimes significantly; however, studies on biofeedback have typically been small and researchers have cautioned that many have significant limitations, such as limited follow-up or a lack of a control group.

Is biofeedback evidence-based?
There is some evidence that biofeedback can effectively treat certain conditions; for example, its efficacy in treating headaches and urinary incontinence is generally thought to be well-established. There is also promising, but less conclusive, evidence that it can aid in stroke recovery or help someone manage a mental health disorder such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD.

What is the difference between biofeedback and neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a type of biofeedback that measures brain activity specifically; it is typically used to treat psychological or neurodevelopmental concerns such as ADHD, depression, insomnia, or autism spectrum disorder. Biofeedback is a broader category that, in addition to neurofeedback, also includes electromyogram, heart rate variability, and thermal biofeedback, each of which measures a particular physiological function (muscle activity, heart rate, and skin temperature, respectively)

What are the limitations of biofeedback?
While biofeedback may be helpful for certain conditions, its efficacy is less assured for others, such as high blood pressure. People with certain health conditions such as heart arrhythmia may not be able to benefit from biofeedback because their condition may interfere with the machines’ readings. Biofeedback can also be time-consuming and costly, and may not be covered by health insurance.
