As a first-generation immigrant and clinical psychologist in training with advanced doctoral expertise, I understand how heavy it can feel to carry anxiety, relationship tension, & cultural expectations. You may feel pulled between identities, unsure how to set boundaries, or overwhelmed by emotions. In therapy, you do not have to translate your experience. I meet you with curiosity, care, and tools that support lasting change.

Hello, and welcome. My name is Ayanna Gellineau, and I’m a trauma-focused therapist committed to helping individuals reconnect with themselves in safe, meaningful ways. I work from the belief that healing is possible when we feel seen, supported, and empowered to make sense of our stories — at our own pace, in our own voice. I specialize in working with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, identity exploration, and life transitions. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected — and they’re often carrying unspoken pain from past experiences.

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially after relationships where trust or safety was lost. I offer a steady, compassionate space where you don’t have to perform or have everything figured out. At The Relational Space I work with individuals and couples navigating relational trauma, attachment injuries, and breakup pain—especially the kind that lingers after emotionally significant connections end or become confusing. My approach is trauma-informed, relational, and slow on purpose, prioritizing safety, consent, and nervous system regulation. Healing happens through curiosity, honesty, and a trusting relationship.

I have been working as a psychoanalyst for almost twenty years and understand how challenging it can be to seek help at times. However, as we all need assistance at various moments in our lives, embarking on psychotherapy is an important step. Working with psychoanalysis can help you better understand the past experiences that shaped your character, as well as your future, desires, goals you aspire to achieve and the fears and obstacles you encounter. I can listen to patients in English, Portuguese (my native language), and Spanish. I have experience with student's mental health, depression, anxiety, psychosis and another diagnosis.

Whatever the hurts, heartaches, quandaries, and strivings that bring you here now, you do not have to carry them alone. I can help you find relief, but relief is only the beginning. If you struggle with the reverberations of childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, unease in embodiment, or loss, I can help. I also welcome people working on issues of spirituality and sexuality, helping professionals wanting to deepen their own work, and those wanting to be more effective changemakers in the world. I also work with clinicians learning about psychoanalysis and/or about childism (oppression against children).

We find true heroism in seemingly ordinary everyday life. These heroics might look like getting cut off in traffic and keeping your cool, finding the courage to ask your boss for a raise, or deciding to bravely take your life in a new direction. The road to becoming the hero of your own story stems from finding the balance between being accountable for what is in your control and accepting what is outside of your control.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
