I use an integral approach incorporating Mindfulness
Acceptance
& Commitment Therapy, Somatic Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy and Psychosynthesis.
I help a wide range of clients: those seeking personal growth as well as those moving through depression, anxiety, betrayal, grief, career and life transitions or interpersonal tensions or conflicts. I assist individuals, couples and leaders during times of conflict or life/career transition to move with intention toward new possibilities. When a client is feeling stuck or struggling to pay attention to "what matters most", we work in a collaborative way to recognize underlying obstacles to their well-being and identify practical actions to move them forward.

I primarily use person-centered and mindfulness-based approaches, and integrate aspects of
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy to help clients increase awareness of the parts of themselves that vie for control or relief at different times and how these parts affect their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.
I provide teletherapy to clients in Pennsylvania and California (I am a licensed therapist in both states). I specialize in working with adults (18-65) who identify as LGBTQ+ who are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, substance use, and a range of issues related to interpersonal relationships and identity. Each client brings unique experiences, goals, strengths, questions, and problems to the process of therapy. Therefore, therapy constantly presents new opportunities for change, learning about oneself and others, and cultivating compassion for oneself and others.

I utilize a strengths-based approach, regularly drawing from
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy (
ACT
), Relational-Cultural Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
While starting therapy can seem intimidating or daunting, I want you to know that you always deserve a seat in the therapy room or video call. I specialize in working with clients who are new to therapy by creating a safe space free from judgment. I aim to help clients uncover the strengths they already possess. I often help clients explore their intersecting identities and navigate life's complications: life transitions, new identities, and different understandings of the world or ourselves. I enjoy working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, multicultural identities and LGBTQAI+ related issues.

My imagined ideal client may report challenges and self-esteem challenges, manifesting as low mood, unhealthy boundaries, people-pleasing behaviors, social anxiety, self-validation, or
acceptance
struggles. The identified needs include relational improvement, self-confidence, and insight. I highlight the process as aiding the client in identifying triggers and sources of depleted esteem, exploring thoughts and feelings regarding self, others, and the world, and processing maladaptive behaviors. I would journey with the client in unveiling core beliefs that impact esteem and work to recognize strengths and positive qualities.

I strive to build genuine connections with my clients by understanding their personal motivators for
acceptance
and change, and building trust by reinforcing their goals rather than my own agenda.
Therapy is the fight for autonomy over our decisions and our strengths-based connections in the aftermath. The universal social work tradition is to build practice based on reciprocity, continuity of care, consent, and affirmation. Therapists build supportive networks through community-based knowledge, interrelationships and love. We labor for access to self determination over our own identities and communities at large. We take a holistic view of the self through a social context, and work to create open and dynamic spaces and roles for ourselves and each other. This must include confronting stigma, isolation and disconnection.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
