With 25 years of experience in behavior health services, I can create a compassionate and supportive environment to begin working with parts of you that have become stuck by using effective, trauma focused, and evidence based treatments such as EMDR therapy, internal family systems, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavior therapy.
Many of us become stuck at different stages in our lives for myriad reasons. Its possible you may or may not be aware of what events may have led to this which can manifest in mental health and/or substance use difficulties. Examples may range from traumatic events such as abuse, neglect, death of loved ones; oft under emphasized circumstances such as daily stress, breakups, loss of employment; or broader systemic issues such as racism, poverty, and other types of discrimination. If you are looking to identify causes and solutions to help all parts of you move forward, this is a good place to start.

I am a relational-somatic (body-centered) therapist with a focus on trauma . I believe healing involves knowing all aspects of oneself more deeply, and in doing so, recognizing, honoring and cultivating compassion towards how we came to be, and opening to who we can become. Many of us carry a legacy of trauma on some level. I aspire to help pace and heal places that hold trauma and attachment wounds for those I work with. My wish is to both respect felt limitations, as well as gradually increase one's capacity to be with challenging internal and external experiences–to create a greater capacity for wholeness.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Philadelphia, who specializes in Trauma and Child/Family Therapy, respectively.
I am passionate about supporting Black and other People of Color through their unique experiences with mental health. Throughout my time as a clinician, I have always strived to be aware of how outside systemic issues and factors contribute to disparities in mental health care, particularly in communities of color. As a Black therapist, I believe that comprehensive mental health treatment acknowledges and accounts for how discrimination and other social barriers can affect one’s ability to process their experiences and safely navigate the world.

I tailor my approach to meeting the needs of each client, whether they seek symptom reduction, changes in their personal or professional life, or in-depth analysis of thoughts and feelings. I specialize in working with a number of issues including trauma , anxiety, dual diagnoses, grief and loss, and relationships.
Seeking help and support is a sign of personal strength, not an admission of weakness. However, this is not the message we always receive from those around us. Engaging in therapy can be a scary thing to sign up for. I take this into account when meeting with my clients. I believe in providing my clients with a sincere effort to build a therapeutic relationship by getting to know each person and providing professional, honest feedback to move forward towards their personal growth. I believe in addressing personal goals and checking in on where the client’s mindset is, as life tends to throw us unexpected changes at unexpected times.

I have experience helping with depression, anxiety, trauma , loss, chronic pain and illness.
Sometimes we look around and life is not the way we want it to be: full of disappointment, stress, sadness or loss. Sometimes we need help finding our way. In my practice, I seek to create a compassionate, supportive space for collaborative exploration, growth and positive change. I create a place where you can be seen and acknowledged, and you can give words to feelings and experiences, to discover greater understanding and self- awareness. When we understand our patterns of behaviors and feelings, we can free ourselves of the unwanted burdens that weigh us down, and live more fully and happily in the present.

My areas of interest include trauma recovery, sexuality, and personal identity. I work from a harm reduction lens, and believe in each individual’s right to self-determination. Therapy is collaborative. The client is the expert on their own experience and should be in control of their healing process. Because of this belief, I approach therapy from a place of respect and humility. It is important to me not to pathologize clients. Rather, I work with each client to unpack how the past is present in a non-judgmental atmosphere.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
