Though I am competent in many treatment approaches and trained in EMDR , I will collaborate with you to determine the best approach for your therapy.
I know asking for help can be hard, especially if you identify as Black, Brown, or Immigrant. Your decision to seek help from a Therapist is a sign of courage and self-awareness, not weakness. If you are feeling "stuck" or constantly fear the worse thing happening, have experienced or witnessed traumatic events, or having difficulty in a romantic or professional relationship, I can help. Our therapeutic relationship will help you gain awareness for life events and generational patterns that are influencing present day concerns. You will also develop new coping skills to feel more at peace and confident in your daily life.

I am a Certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist, Approved IFS Clinical Consultant and am trained in EMDR Therapy.
Resolving trauma can be a long and difficult process. It is comforting - and essential - to have a compassionate and consistent therapist as you walk the road to healing and joy. With over 25 years of experience and a specialty in treating trauma, I can help provide the roadmap to a healthy resolution. Many clients try to avoid distressing memories, but this is rarely successful in the long run. With the newer trauma-specific treatments now available, perhaps together we can find our way to lasting peace.

One technique I like to use and have had much success with is called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR ).
Do you ever feel that life is too overwhelming or establishing a good work-life balance is impossible? Do you have little energy to get through the day and find it difficult to make decisions? Does your job bring you little joy, finding you anxious about being able to do well? If so, I know how you are feeling and would be honored to help you navigate through life’s challenges. As we collaborate, we will walk down the path toward discovering, understanding, and valuing who you are and all you want to do in your life. I want you to truly believe you are good enough and capable of having exactly what you are envisioning for your life.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy, EMDR , treatment of anxiety and depression, relationship counseling, coaching, life transitions, and spiritual awareness are among the approaches offered.
Effective treatment allows you to live more fully, more freely, with greater joy and spiritual connection. Thirty years of a successful psychotherapy practice in addition to 20 years of spiritual studies creates a powerful set of skills. My work blends a psychodynamic orientation and spiritual awareness to help clients move from pain, confusion, anxiety, and depression into truth, clarity, healing, and heightened energy. In a respectful and open-hearted environment we will examine the triggers and habitual patterns which impede you. Then work towards unlocking them and create new ways of being.

I have been practicing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR ) since 1992 and it is an integral part of my clinical practice.
I help individuals and couples work on trauma, psychological and relational issues and behaviors so that they can resolve them and enrich their lives. I have been a clinical psychologist since the mid-eighties and I view our work together as a collaborative process. I will begin by learning about and understanding you and your problem and we will figure out together what has contributed to your difficulties. The next step is to create a treatment plan tailored to you and your goal/s. Treatment consists of resolving these difficulties and re-accessing joy and interest in life.

In addition to conventional talk therapy, I also offer art therapy, a non-verbal avenue for expression and insight than what is often accessible through words alone, as well as EMDR , a relatively rapid treatment that helps to access, process and resolve traumatic experiences that contribute to current problematic behaviors and beliefs.
You may have landed here because you've found that your current way of operating in this world is no longer serving you and are seeking to change some of the patterns that have brought you to this moment. Or maybe you seek closure for past harms, losses or regrets, wishing to make sense of these experiences, and realize that there's no time like the present to get started. In my clinical practice, I work primarily with adolescents and adults aged 12 through 80+ struggling with a variety of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, grief, relationship problems and trauma-related disorders.

I am trained in EMDR and Internal Family Systems.
Many people choose to enter therapy to gain a deeper understanding of themselves – their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in addition to problems in their interpersonal relationships.  Oftentimes, the issues we face in the present stem from painful experiences in the past.  As a result of these experiences, we develop ways of coping in the world – some continue to serve us well and others may get in the way of us living a more fulfilling life. I offer a warm, non-judgmental, and safe environment for exploration, healing, and growth.

With 25 years of experience in behavior health services, I can create a compassionate and supportive environment to begin working with parts of you that have become stuck by using effective, trauma focused, and evidence based treatments such as EMDR therapy, internal family systems, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavior therapy.
Many of us become stuck at different stages in our lives for myriad reasons. Its possible you may or may not be aware of what events may have led to this which can manifest in mental health and/or substance use difficulties. Examples may range from traumatic events such as abuse, neglect, death of loved ones; oft under emphasized circumstances such as daily stress, breakups, loss of employment; or broader systemic issues such as racism, poverty, and other types of discrimination. If you are looking to identify causes and solutions to help all parts of you move forward, this is a good place to start.

I am a certified EMDR clinician and specialize in the treatment of trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD and subsequent relationship issues.
Having the tools we need to navigate our way through life's challenges is often the key to greater happiness and fulfillment. I believe that human beings start from a place of health and resilience. When we have difficult or traumatic experiences, we can often be sidetracked by self-doubt, anxiety, depression and more. This can make life and relationships feel overwhelming, confusing and at times unmanageable. Therapy provides a safe space to explore and understand ourselves better while also developing the tools we need to move forward. Through this process, we can begin to heal from the past while creating a more intentional future.

I utilize an integrative model, drawing from relational, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, EMDR , and attachment based approaches.
Many find themselves at a point in their lives where external support is necessary to navigate life's challenges. My clients seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Some may come to therapy to deal with a specific struggle, such as anxiety or depression, while others initiate therapy during a difficult life transition. Even positive transitions, such as getting a new job or starting a new relationship can be stressful. Together, we will merge our resources to address these challenges in a safe environment by exploring patterns, processing events from the past, and creating plans for change in the future.

Through EMDR , Somatic Resourcing, and IFS-informed Parts Work, you can recover from years of living in dysregulated, disconnected & shut-down states.
When we experience trauma, we will reach for whatever coping skill is closest in order to survive. We may turn to drinking, substances, workaholism, excessive exercise, self-harm, sex, intellectualizing, mindless consumption of media, or perfectionism. These help to soothe, distract, or numb us from feelings of shame, doubt, guilt, anger, and fear. But these only provide temporary solutions. The emotions inevitably become intolerable, often morphing into anxiety, depression, rage, dissociation, hyper vigilance, or panic. Yet, these experiences and emotions only represent parts of us. We are still creative, smart, empathetic & brave.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
