Finding a therapist that's a good fit for you is essential. My specific approach to counseling is empowerment-based, process oriented, and solutions-focused. I find that learning about one's own motivations, strengthening the empathy response, facing fears, and dismantling barriers are what lead to healing, fulfillment, personal growth and freedom. My style is to be curious and challenging, is generally discussion-based, and always leaves room for humor and freedom of expression. I have been supervising MSW students for over a decade, and am currently building a supervision practice for PA LSWs seeking mentorship.

Life's journey is riddled with challenges and transitions. I specialize in aiding adult clients grappling with a history of trauma, carrying scars that haunt their daily lives. Together, we navigate the emotional labyrinth, working to mend shattered pieces. Trauma casts a shadow, impacting self-esteem and relationships. Mood regulation difficulties complicate their journey, as they wrestle with the ebbs and flows of their emotional landscape. It's a relentless inner battle my clients face, and I'm here to guide them through.

Whether you are exploring therapy for the first time or have had prior treatment, the initial contact with a therapist can be daunting. Feel free to contact me to discuss how therapy may help and if I am the right therapist for you. Feeling connected is an integral part of relationships. Clients come to me when they feel disconnected, lost, overwhelmed, lonely, frustrated, angry, sad, and confused. You may want something but don't know how to get it, or worthy enough to receive it. Or maybe you aren't sure what you want, and need help gaining clarity. My role is to walk with my clients as they learn about themselves, and how their families, relationships, and experiences have impacted their understanding of who they are both internally and in relationship with others. I hope to empower clients to value themselves, and form the relationships they desire.

Pursuing and going to therapy can be uncomfortable, scary, and exhausting. It takes a tremendous amount of courage and willingness. Living with and carrying emotional pain can be lonely and in therapy we will navigate this and work towards healing together. We will process how the past and unconscious resurface in the present causing distress in various areas including family, relationships, work, mental health, etc. As we do this work and build an open and trusting relationship, we can develop insights, bring about change, and further healing.

I incorporate narrative strategies, attachment-based therapy, mindfulness, and your creativity.
Finding the right therapist can be intimidating. My goal is to make the therapy process welcoming and transparent. I work particularly well with people who've been told they are "too sensitive" or who identify as Highly Sensitive People. My talent lies in treating anxiety, trauma, and attachment/relationship wounds, as well as self-esteem. I support those who care for their communities: healers, caregivers, artists or those with creative practices, and activists. I've worked with ages 3-90 across class, race, gender, sexual orientation, & health status. Together, we can explore hard topics with sensitivity and humor.

Many find themselves at a point in their lives where external support is necessary to navigate life's challenges. My clients seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Some may come to therapy to deal with a specific struggle, such as anxiety or depression, while others initiate therapy during a difficult life transition. Even positive transitions, such as getting a new job or starting a new relationship can be stressful. Together, we will merge our resources to address these challenges in a safe environment by exploring patterns, processing events from the past, and creating plans for change in the future.

I view therapy primarily through an attachment-based and psychodynamic lens.
I believe you know yourself better than anyone else. I also believe humans are built for connection, and when you find a therapist that is the right fit for your needs, therapy can be healing. I encourage safety and empowerment during sessions, while compassionately challenging you to work toward your individual goals and embrace your intuitive sense of self.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
