Sometimes our thoughts and feelings aren't on the same page-there's a discrepancy between what we know logically to be true and how we feel emotionally. When this happens, it is difficult if not impossible to manage our feelings using reason. As a therapist, my greatest passion is helping people regain control of their lives by learning how to manage their thoughts and feelings. I specialize in helping clients dealing with
anxiety
and low self esteem as well as those who are struggling to navigate life transitions. Ideal clients are motivated to work on themselves in and outside of our sessions and see faster results from doing so.

I have a psychotherapeutic orientation, and am also trained in both cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness techniques. I work with the technique and orientation to fit the person--dealing with depression,
anxiety
, grief and loss.
We all experience change and loss in our lives. Everyone copes in their own way and time. From the ending of a relationship, common life transitions (such as school, jobs, moving) to the death of a loved-one, change can sometimes be experienced as profound loss. And depression and/or
anxiety
can follow. I will help you go through a grieving process that will empower you.

I utilize neuroscience and CBT to target and work on the symptoms of
anxiety
, phobias, and OCD.
Do you struggle with feeling overwhelmed trying to keep up with a full schedule? Do you feel like the intensity of emotions can be a burden? Maybe it feels difficult to keep up with work, health, and relationships that are important to you. Do you struggle with feeling an abrupt surge of fear that seems hard to predict? Perhaps it is easy to predict and hard to control. Does the thought of what others might think or say prevent you from making connections with others? Experiencing doubt and uncertainty about the future can be difficult. Worrying about decisions that need to be made can leave you feeling stuck.

I work with clients on issues including
anxiety
, depression, relationship challenges, grief, and life transitions.
I work with individuals and couples while building an environment of safety and curiosity. Because opening up about true feelings with another person can be intimidating, I create a warm space to unpack clients’ stories and uncover the root causes of issues. My practice is grounded in understanding the unique experiences and identities of clients, as well as how systems of oppression contribute to distress. I believe in the natural intuition and resilience of all people and highlight those in therapy so that greater understanding and compassion for oneself can emerge, while also empowering clients with new perspectives and tools.

I've helped many people with depression,
anxiety
/worry/stress, addiction, couples issues, self-esteem, weight, sleep, and anger issues.
I will work with you to capitalize on your strengths and help you identify and move beyond unhelpful mental and behavioral patterns lurking in your blind spots.
Rather than talk endlessly about your problems, we will instead use various empirically supported techniques to step back from your problems and explore new behavioral and belief options that better correspond to your key goals and values. Then you'll practice these new perspectives and strategies at home in your real life until they feel more natural.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
