Hello! I'm an LMFT who is passionate about helping people establish and maintain meaningful connections in their lives through familial, peer, and intimate relationships. I’m trained systemically and enjoy helping people explore how various aspects of their lives (e.g., family upbringing, societal influences, personal experiences) influence the way they make meaning of their lives. I take a collaborative approach with clients to identify sustainable solutions to old and new problems, and I specialize in eating disorders (HAES-informed), sexual orientation, trauma, and ADHD.

Are you tired of feeling unheard in your relationship? Maybe you researched how to communicate better or how to avoid conflict. Communication is hard, especially if you were never taught how to communicate or you saw poor communication in your family growing up. Most people are either conflict avoidant or conflict escalators. We want to be somewhere in between.

Together, we'll explore your family's constellation of personalities, dynamics that have formed, what behaviors are communicating, and how to bring about real change in family relationships.
Parenting is one of life's greatest adventures. Amid the numerous books, experts, and voices out there it can be difficult to determine what to do when faced with a challenge. Parents of spirited, high-energy, rigid, anxious, or disruptive children or of those who carry diagnoses may feel alone with their challenges. As your psychologist, I offer empathy, support and a collaborative approach for fostering goodness-of-fit parenting in your family. That is, I help you to discover the most effective ways for you to parent your unique child.

I offer treatment for additional concerns including: codependency/family conflict, anxiety, and complex trauma.
You look in the mirror and see the "bad" traits. That you're not thin enough, not righteous enough, not "good" enough. You realize that these traits were projected there by someone else--a partner, or maybe even a parent. You want to recover from perhaps a lifetime of emotional pain and narcissistic abuse but you don't know where to begin...I specialize in treating adult children of narcissists, cult abuse/religious trauma survivors, and those struggling with disordered eating and body image issues. I can support you in developing your inner strengths so that when you look in the mirror it will be your true self staring back at you.

I focus on anxiety, family relationship distress/confIict, trauma, people-pleasing, and self-esteem concerns.
My clients are burned-out peacemakers suffering from anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues. They put others before themselves and struggle to set boundaries. Many had childhoods where their emotional needs weren't fully met and may struggle with ongoing difficult family relationships. I do a lot of work helping dynamics between adult children and their parents. Our work is a process of learning who they are, what they need, and undoing the unhealthy patterns that keep them trapped. I provide virtual individual, family, and couples therapy.

As a person whose experiences and identities do not fit neatly into categories, I have encountered the challenges of navigating a society that operates on the assumption that ‘one size fits all’ works for everyone. I strive to create a different kind of space in my therapeutic approach. I view therapy as a collaborative process, recognizing that each unique individual requires different kinds of support, which can change over time. I am a multiracial (half white and half Japanese), cisgender, queer woman, with an immigrant parent and firsthand understanding of the complexities of navigating a multicultural family.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
