I have experience working with gay, lesbian, bi and heterosexual adults on issues related to sexuality, identity and relationships, as well as anxiety and depression.
Maybe you've noticed yourself worrying more or mulling over regrets. Or something has happened that you need to talk though: it could be a breakup, a loss, a layoff, an illness, or something else. You want more than passive uh-huh’s, but not a new boss either. I will take a calm walk with you through your life. My hope is you will feel heard and accepted both for who you are right now and who you want to become.

These potholes being relationship issues, cycles of anxiety and/or depression, or just low self-esteem.
Let's take a journey together! You're the driver on this road trip that we will take together; as the therapist/co-pilot, I will help you navigate and explore, work through those bumps and winding curves in the road, and maybe find alternative ways to get to the destination. Maybe you're finding yourself stuck in the "mud," just spinning your wheels with the same patterns of thinking? Or maybe you're approaching a detour or having difficulty navigating all the potholes along the same road?

It's okay to not be okay and seeking help is one of the bravest initiatives a person can take. I want to be a guide and helping hand to assist clients through this time and aspects of their lives they are struggling with. I know first hand the incredible effects therapy can have. Sometimes mental illness can seem like an endless and hopeless battle, but therapy gives hope and a helping hand in this time. I have experience working with diverse populations and many different diagnoses, including depression, anxiety , and bipolar disorder.

I specialize in working with people who have anxiety , depression, relationship issues, and transgender folks.
I believe that everyone deserves a time and a place to work on their mental health, heal from painful experiences, and move towards finding more meaning in their lives and relationships. I also know that given the current pandemic, we're all struggling more than usual! I offer a warm and judgment-free zone to work on a range of issues. I believe psychotherapy works best when it is tailored to each person as a unique individual. I utilize an integrative model, drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), relational, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and humanistic approaches.

I have worked in both individual and group settings, serving women with eating disorders and other co-morbid mental illnesses, such as anxiety , depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It was important for me to continue to serve the needs of individuals struggling with Eating Disorders, disordered eating and body image issues. In addition, I wanted to expand my range of therapy to include therapies for couples and families as well as for individuals. I value supporting clients in developing a greater understanding of themselves to improve their view of self, how they interact with others and the world around them.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
