Adults experiencing work or personal difficulties due to diagnosed or suspected ADHD is a specialty and in such cases we work to develop strategies for better organization and focus.
I believe people seek help from when they get "stuck" in some aspect of their lives. Through my 25 plus years of practice I work to help others make changes, choices, solve problems, and to grow in order to get "unstuck" and progress. I take an active, interactive, and supportive approach to therapy and use a variety of approaches as needed, sometimes working with the past and always with applications to the present.

I am experienced in treating ADHD , High Functioning ASD (Asperger's disorder) and separation/divorce issues and I enjoy working with couples.
In my 41 years of post-doctoral experience I've learned to draw from psychodynamic, family systems, and cognitive behavioral approaches so that I can be most effective. My thinking has always been integrative and that has prevented me from taking a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. Over the years it has become clear to me that there are two essential ingredients in helping people change; establishing a strong, real working alliance built on mutual trust, and altering the person's perceptions of themselves and the world around them.

I have extensive experience evaluating, diagnosing and treating Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD in children, as well as adolescents and adults.
I have been working with children and adults for over 20 years, diagnosing and treating mental health issues. I believe there is a very large range of "normal" and we all struggle with life at times. My professional goal is to provide a safe atmosphere to identify and discuss stumbling blocks and guide others to a place where they can confidently be themselves, fulfill their potential and find joy. It can be challenging to ask for help, but taking that risk and facing your fears opens up a world of possibilities.

Having ADHD can sometimes feel like a daily battle with yourself to accomplish tasks, maintain relationships, and attend to your own needs, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Learning how to work with your ADHD rather than against it can be a transformative experience, and it would be my honor to accompany you on this delicate balancing act of a journey. Together in therapy, we can work to tackle the challenges of ADHD while also bolstering your strengths and coming into and honoring your most authentic self. I work to create a therapeutic space that is compassionate, constructive, and creative, and I can’t wait to welcome you in.

My goal is to foster a warm, accepting, and respectful environment where we celebrate the beauty of ADHD while exploring and addressing the practical, emotional, psychological, and relational impacts of being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world.
I feel both honored and privileged to partner with individuals and couples to build their understanding of their challenges, leverage their strengths, and create personalized strategies to make meaningful changes in their lives. As a therapist with ADHD , I recognize that one of the most painful experiences that come with ADHD is feeling “in your own way” and the sense of thwarted potential that comes along with it. I also know that ADHD doesn’t just impact attention, organization, and motivation; it can affect your entire life, from your performance at work to your home life and inner world.

With everything going on in your world, ADHD may feel like the last thing you want to be dealing with right now. You may have a job, a family, and you just want to complete the goals you set for yourself, but things aren’t working the way you want them to. Maybe you’ve tried treatment in the past and it didn’t work out or maybe this is the first time you’re considering it. However you got here, I’m glad you made it. It takes courage to recognize that you could use support getting to a place where you feel more balanced in your life– like you can finally act on your intentions.

Some of my areas of expertise include ADHD , trauma, relationship challenges, parenting, and emotion management.
Are you overwhelmed, anxious, and burned out? Would you like to manage your stress more effectively? Maybe you're struggling to keep up with work and family responsibilities, maybe your emotions feel out of control, or maybe you want to have better relationships. Many people have great ideas about how to solve their own problems, but then become frustrated when these strategies aren't working consistently.

I will show up calm and open minded, listen with empathy, and may add in a bit of humor when appropriate.
I support people dealing with depression, anxiety, relational distress, chronic illness, sexual concerns, and navigating later in life diagnosis (or self-diagnosis) of autism and/or ADHD . Healthy relationships with our family, friends, and support systems including therapy inform our ability to cope, process, and grow. I believe healing happens when we can shed light on the darkest spaces in our mind and be received with compassion. My style is integrative, mindful and rooted in social justice.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
