Throughout my time clinically, I have experience working with clients who have anxiety, depression, behavioral conflicts, substance and alcohol addictions, self harming behaviors, and self esteem struggles.
In my therapeutic setting, it is essential that the space I offer is used to best meet my clients' individual needs. I am committed to creating an environment where my clients feel empowered to focus treatment on their desired areas of therapy, as we collaborate with one another to create an individual treatment plan. My role will be used to hold a space for my clients to be heard and to empower the client in working towards their self-identified goals. I utilize a person-centered approach, as well as encourage clients to explore mindfulness techniques that ultimately allow for increased sense of center and presence.

At times, we may we find ourselves feeling unmotivated, sad and stuck. Change can feel like a struggle or an endless loop of problems repeating themselves. I believe we all have tools for change inside us, but we don't always recognize them. I began my career as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) later in life, and I have great passion for the work I do with my clients. I have 10+ years of experience as a therapist for children/teens, adults, and families. I have worked in out-patient, school-based, in-home, and community settings. With younger children and parents, I often employ the principles of Parent-Child Interactive Therapy, focusing on child-directed and parent-directed play. For family therapy, I use a relational approach that is based on positive communication, mutual respect, and active listening skills. I enjoy collaborating with clients on goals.

I provide therapy for individuals, couples, families, adults and children. I have worked with many different clients providing the support needed for change. My experience at various social service agencies, at a child and family clinic; and in a college clinic has given me the opportunity to work with many adults, children, adolescents and families. I find my training in marriage and family therapy is particularly helpful for my clients in that it helps individuals better understand their relationships with themselves and others in their life. I regularly look at the systemic process in relationships, and at attachment issues.

You thirst to understand yourself and those around you with depth and clarity. You desire to uncover insight into who you are and your relationships. You struggle with perfectionism and are convinced that you will get left behind unless you do all the right things and be everything. You give so much care and attention to other people that you don’t know what it feels like to get your own needs met. If any of this resonates with you, you are in the right place. Through therapy, you will develop a relationship of compassion, love, and kindness to yourself and your relationships.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
