I also teach evidence-based interventions to address the effects of trauma and other special needs.
If you've decided to look for better ways to take care of yourself or boost a relationship, finding the right therapist is a great start. Usually these include parenting struggles, conflict with loved ones, traumatic experiences, and self-defeating behavior patterns. I'm a sensitive, knowledgeable and insightful supporter who can help you gain the understanding you need to define your best path toward healthier relationships and a happier you.

I provide therapy for adolescents and adults with all anxiety disorders using mindfulness based cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). Specifically, I work with people who have obsessive-compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic with or without agoraphobia, and specific fears such as driving, flying, getting needles, you name it. I integrate mindfulness training with CBT because exposure to what is feared can feel overwhelming without mindfulness training or some other way of weathering extreme fear.

Feeling stuck in life? Maybe it's time to get some help. Do you find yourself getting sad or angry at confusing moments in your life? Do others find you to be "primarily angry," "often sad," or in some other way dominated by one particular feeling? Expressing and/or making sense of negative emotions is sometimes challenging. I help people examine, understand, and process their feelings so that they can be more productive and self-secure. I am also particularly skilled in helping people with life and career transition problems.

Psychotherapy is a powerful process through which we can learn about the ways we attempt to manage difficult circumstances, feelings, and conflicts through the lens of our experiences and relationships both past and present. Therapy is an opportunity for individuals to develop their own understanding of how they came to be who they are- and why. This often provides valuable information about how we might meet present day challenges across the broad demands of everyday life. Therapy can be very effective for most people, and I make every effort to create a welcoming and collaborative environment.

On the outside, you may look as if you have it all together, but on the inside, you may struggle with feelings of self-doubt, shame, and loneliness. I specialize in empowering teenage girls and women to be who they are and discover and accept their intrinsic value. Grounded in a climate of warmth and acceptance, clients explore feelings and identify thoughts and patterns that may be preventing them from getting what they want. The counseling relationship thrives when you are able to be open, knowing that your vulnerable stories will be received with empathy and acceptance. Whatever struggles you feel now or whatever barrier is impeding your goals, whether it be depression, anxiety, addiction, or unresolved trauma, the safety of a comfortable counseling relationship is the first step to begin healing. I believe everyone has the ability to develop resilience and function in this world as their true self, despite any pain or fear previously blocking your path. My goal is to help you live confidently as your true self, even if that means embracing our quirks.

I provide gender affirming and trauma informed care to those embarking on a journey related to gender and sexuality identity exploration or interested in working on trauma or abuse history.
Does this sound like your internal dialogue?: “What is wrong with me? Why can’t I just do better, be better? Will I always feel this broken?” What if the answer is that there is NOTHING wrong with you. What if you were to find out that you are fundamentally, at your core, a deeply good and capable human. What if love and acceptance for self and others were your status quo? We will explore aspects of yourself that may be difficult to love and accept, to help you better understand why you are repeating patterns that are harming you or the people around you, and to find a place where you can safely express all of who you are.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
