Most days your body feels like it is on high alert, waiting for something bad to happen. You have feelings of danger panic or dread, and it is making it increasingly difficult to get through your day. Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time, you tell yourself, but this nervousness and tension is starting to interfere with your day to day activities- work, family, friends and fun. You can’t concentrate and feel like you overthink everything. A restful night’s sleep seems to be a thing of the past, and you are worried it is impacting your physical health. As your irritability increases, you realize this is no way to live.

Entering therapy is an act of self care that takes courage. It is an opportunity to take pause and honor who we are and how we got here. My approach is to encourage clients to dig deep into what it means to be happy, content, and fulfilled. This process is as much about the questions as it is the answers. I work collaboratively with clients to better understand themselves and their relationships, build insight and distress tolerance, and to develop a "toolbox" to better communicate and relate with their loved ones. Combined, this results in a refined awareness of self and a deeper permission to feel, change, and grow.

I have worked extensively with children, youth and parents addressing issues of depression, anxiety and trauma.
My goal is to help clients grow and develop tools to move through the challenges they encounter. I work to create a safe place for clients to learn alternative ways to manage the stressors and conflicts in life that lead to anxiety, depression, PTSD, helplessness and hopelessness. I have been greatly honored to journey with individuals, couples and families as they navigate the challenges they face, make sense of their lives and feel better. I am continually amazed by the human spirit and each person’s ability to overcome adversity, even horrendous trauma.

Many are navigating modern parenting or adjusting to the role of motherhood, looking to improve relationships with partners or children that may feel disconnected or tense, attempting to set healthier boundaries or increase balance at work, working to heal from past pain or trauma, or striving to find greater fulfillment overall.
I work with individuals & couples to help reduce conflict and arguments, increase healthy communication, explore difficulties with intimacy, tackle issues of parenting or co-parenting, and understand how early relationships have helped set current patterns and struggles. My clients learn to trust and understand themselves while improving their relationships.

My practice is dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families. Entering therapy is a significant decision and making this decision comes from a place of strength. I have an appreciation for this strength, and consider it an important part of the therapy process. Making personal changes can be challenging. The aim of therapy is to help people make changes within their thoughts, feelings, and relationships that lead to being their most authentic self. I consider myself as an invited guest into the client's life and it is an honor to be a part of the process.

Your mind never seems to stop. You try to relax, but your thoughts won’t let you. Constant overthinking leaves you drained, restless, and on edge. The longer this persists, the more it feels like things will never change. You have tried coping on your own, but solutions that used to work no longer seem to help. You dream of a happier life – free from worry, present in the moment, and optimistic about the future – and wonder if it is possible. I know what these struggles are like, and I can help you restore hope in yourself. Keep reading to learn how!

I have extensive experience working with trauma recovery and have an understanding of custody issues and concerns parents may have and work to address both parents concerns in a balanced and supportive way while holding a beacon of hope of healing for you and your children.
Shame dies when stories are told in safe places. Your story matters. Experiencing trauma can make us feel alone, ashamed, & burdened with self-doubt. When you take the brave step toward therapy and healing, you no longer have to do that alone. I work to hold a safe space so that each person who comes to me is able to openly share their story while learning how to access the tools to heal all wounds that they carry. I use Internal Family Systems as an approach to work on the root of pain and to help clients heal. I am certified in DBT therapy to help individuals regulate their emotions and build skills to navigate relationships.

Children, Family, Life Transitions can sometimes feel like disappointments.
I understand how expectations do not always match what happens in relationships, often leaving a feeling of being alone, without focus, and overwhelmed. Feeling disappointed by our family or friends can be stressful and depressing. We all want to feel that we matter and can control the navigation of our lives.

It deeply bothers me to hear parents feeling frustrated or contemplating giving up because they believe systematic resources to support their child effectively have been exhausted.
For the past 25 years, I have been providing behavioral based services to children, teens, and young adults. Elevate is here to help bridge the gap between a child’s needs and available resources. The journey to success is often difficult, but there is ALWAYS a path forward.

FAQ - About Child Therapy
When does a child need to see a therapist?
Children naturally experience emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, though, they need support from a professional. A child may benefit from therapy if their emotions or behaviors change significantly within a short period of time. For example, if a child usually spends time with friends after school but begins isolating in their room, further inquiry is warranted. Other areas for concern include altered sleep patterns, lack of appetite, intense anger, irritability, or hopelessness, or developmental regression in young children (bedwetting, thumb-sucking).

What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way

What therapy types are most suitable for children?
Children can benefit from different forms of therapy, including family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and exposure therapy, depending on their condition. Play therapy is a great option for younger children who may not be able to fully articulate their feelings. In this approach, kids play with toys and games while a therapist observes and helps the child express their emotions and develop coping skills.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
