Most days your body feels like it is on high alert, waiting for something bad to happen. You have feelings of danger panic or dread, and it is making it increasingly difficult to get through your day. Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time, you tell yourself, but this nervousness and tension is starting to interfere with your day to day activities- work, family, friends and fun. You can’t concentrate and feel like you overthink everything. A restful night’s sleep seems to be a thing of the past, and you are worried it is impacting your physical health. As your irritability increases, you realize this is no way to live.

I have been in private practice for 20 years, specializing in work with teens, young adults and parents.
I approach my therapeutic work with clients with expertise, warmth, evidenced based practice, humor, and a bit of un-seriousness thrown in for balance ;) I specialize in treating anxiety in all populations, but am trained and experienced in most mental health issues.

My practice is dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families. Entering therapy is a significant decision and making this decision comes from a place of strength. I have an appreciation for this strength, and consider it an important part of the therapy process. Making personal changes can be challenging. The aim of therapy is to help people make changes within their thoughts, feelings, and relationships that lead to being their most authentic self. I consider myself as an invited guest into the client's life and it is an honor to be a part of the process.

In order for effective change to happen in psychotherapy there has to be a good alliance between therapist and client. I seek to provide a sense of safety and understanding so that issues can be explored, overcome or reconciled. I work with people who are suffering from depression, anxiety, stress related illness, anger management problems and relationship issues. My intention is to help people improve their overall health, enhance their well being, recognize their inherent strengths and feel more fulfilled.

My name is Stacey Simpson and I created The Life Connection (TLC) over 28 years ago, offering counseling, coaching and classes to help people create their best life.
I love being a counselor and a teacher and have worked with thousands of clients and students. I like helping people figure out what they want from their life and how to make the changes and tap into the resources to make that happen. To learn how to create balance in every area. One of my favorite expressions is people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. The reason I became a counselor is to help make a difference one person at a time.

I also specialize in working with adolescents and young adults struggling with issues related to depression, anxiety, and self-esteem.
Entering therapy is an act of self care that takes courage. It is an opportunity to take pause and honor who we are and how we got here. My approach is to encourage clients to dig deep into what it means to be happy, content, and fulfilled. This process is as much about the questions as it is the answers. I work collaboratively with clients to better understand themselves and their relationships, build insight and distress tolerance, and to develop a "toolbox" to better communicate and relate with their loved ones. Combined, this results in a refined awareness of self and a deeper permission to feel, change, and grow.

You say yes when you mean no. You apologize for things that aren't your fault. You show up for everyone around you — reliably, thoughtfully, always — and behind all of that is anxiety that won't quit, a voice in your head that's relentlessly critical, and a deep exhaustion from never feeling like enough.
You're not broken. You're burnt out from a lifetime of people-pleasing. And that pattern makes complete sense given everything you've carried. It also doesn't have to be permanent.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
