I genuinely enjoy working with individuals who are ready to make meaningful changes in their lives. I understand that making the first call for counseling can feel intimidating, and I recognize the courage it takes to reach out for help. My goal is to make that first step as comfortable as possible.
From the moment you arrive, you'll be welcomed into a warm, inviting environment where you can relax with a beverage and light refreshment before we begin. Building trust is an important part of the counseling process, and I believe that healing and personal growth happen best in a setting where you feel heard, respected, and understood

My unique approach to trauma blends narrative therapy (the stories you tell yourself), nervous system regulation (teaching your body it's ok to relax), pattern recognition (gentle feedback and insights), and connection. While all my clients' stories are unique, they have this in common: they are ready to move forward, to find joy, and to keep their hearts open in a world where it would be very easy to close off.
In my 15+ years of experience as a therapist, I am deeply passionate about the healing that's possible and the future that's available to each of my clients.

I work with those struggling with relational issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, LGBT, health/cancer, grief, divorce/separation, parenting issues, and mood disorders.
I'm trained in DBT, an evidenced based treatment. DBT can increase awareness through "mindfulness" (reduce racing thoughts), enhance interpersonal skills (setting healthy boundaries), increase a person's ability to control their emotions (stop acting out impulsively), and distress tolerance skills (when feeling like we've reached our limit).

“You’ve always had the power, my dear. You just had to learn it for yourself.” – L. Frank Baum.
I’m glad you’re here. You may be feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, past trauma, or major life transitions and unsure how to move forward. Perhaps stress, emotions, or relationships feel unmanageable, or you’re seeking clarity and balance in your life. Adults and adolescents I work with often want relief from emotional distress, stronger coping skills, and a greater sense of confidence and control over their thoughts and behaviors.

We all struggle in the relationships that are important to us and need help some of the time to develop skills to strengthen these relationships. We lose connection and have difficulty communicating with our partners or spouses; we get stuck in conflict with our children; we lose track of who we are; we dread going to work because it feels hostile or unsafe; we question our faith; we have trouble expressing needs at school; and we neglect our bodies and our health. The relationships we have with ourselves and others are always evolving and we need to change with them.

Many of the men I work with are successful on the outside but privately overwhelmed. They’re disciplined, intelligent, and used to pushing through—yet something in their system isn’t resetting the way it used to. They feel stuck, disconnected, or caught in patterns that no longer match the life they’re trying to build. They want more than symptom relief; they want meaningful, lasting change that helps them feel steady, present, and in control again.

I believe in empowering a greater sense of responsibility so a person can manage and cope with life's trials and difficulties. If you are an individual struggling with depression or anxiety, a couple seeking a greater bond after some form of crisis, or a family in need of resolving various forms of conflict, then I am confident I can assist you. I also have done a lot of work with military veterans. I chose this line of work in mid-life. My other real life experience includes: a dairy farmer, a quality control inspector in manufacturing, a high school teacher, and an MCSE in the computer field. I know what it is like out there.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
