One of the greatest things about challenges in life is that we’re given the opportunity to discover we’re stronger than we ever imagined. Understanding that we can develop the skills necessary to conquer life’s challenges is critical to creating the life we want for ourselves. I have twenty years of experience in the mental health field having worked in a hospital setting at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, residential treatment and outpatient levels of care.

Drawing from Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT), I teach skills that support
I genuinely enjoy working with individuals who are ready to make meaningful changes in their lives. I understand that making the first call for counseling can feel intimidating, and I recognize the courage it takes to reach out for help. My goal is to make that first step as comfortable as possible.
From the moment you arrive, you'll be welcomed into a warm, inviting environment where you can relax with a beverage and light refreshment before we begin. Building trust is an important part of the counseling process, and I believe that healing and personal growth happen best in a setting where you feel heard, respected, and understood

Many of my clients have come to me after life has shaken them up like a snow-globe, leaving them disoriented & foggy. They feel leery of another shake-up, bracing for what’s around the corner. While their events are unique, they have this in common: they are ready to access self trust, find joy, and keep their heart open in a world where it would be very easy to close off.
In my 15+ years of experience as a therapist, I am deeply passionate about the healing that's possible and the future that's available to each of my clients.

We all struggle in the relationships that are important to us and need help some of the time to develop skills to strengthen these relationships. We lose connection and have difficulty communicating with our partners or spouses; we get stuck in conflict with our children; we lose track of who we are; we dread going to work because it feels hostile or unsafe; we question our faith; we have trouble expressing needs at school; and we neglect our bodies and our health. The relationships we have with ourselves and others are always evolving and we need to change with them.

I've worked with teens and adults having a hard time living authentically or finding joy, questioning their identity, living with overwhelming guilt or shame, unable to find "forgiveness", battling midlife hormones, not performing their sport at expected level, other people's judgment weighing them down, can't concentrate on work or class, lacking motivation, grieving a loss of someone or something, job fatigue, chronic illness, heavy secrets, winter blues, frustrating political atmosphere... these are just some examples of what people battled who have found freedom in talk therapy/counseling with me.

Many of the men I work with are successful on the outside but privately overwhelmed. They’re disciplined, intelligent, and used to pushing through—yet something in their system isn’t resetting the way it used to. They feel stuck, disconnected, or caught in patterns that no longer match the life they’re trying to build. They want more than symptom relief; they want meaningful, lasting change that helps them feel steady, present, and in control again.

I utilize an eclectic mix of therapeutic modalities and interventions to tailor treatment according to the specific needs of each individual, primarily including ACT, Assertiveness Training, CBT, DBT, Exploration of Relationship Patterns, Exploration of Values, ERP, I-CBT, Mindfulness Practices, MI, and ongoing Psychoeducation.
My clinical experience began in general private practice, and I later moved on to develop a more specialized treatment approach through an internship with The Center for OCD and Anxiety in August 2020. From there, I transitioned into my roles as Associate Therapist, Intake Manager, and Caregiver Support Group Leader until February 2024. As I believe that effective therapy includes an appropriate balance of empathy, humor, active listening, and proper guidance rooted in evidence-based practices, I utilize an eclectic mix of therapeutic modalities (listed below) to tailor treatment according to the specific needs of each individual.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
