I have been a Clinical Psychologist for over 20 years, and feel privileged to have worked in settings such as the VA Hospital, the College Counseling Center at Columbia University, as well as running a private practice that has allowed me to work with some amazing clients in the fields of finance, publishing, entertainment, technology, and medicine. Each person was doing their best to navigate life, relationships, and careers. They were figuring it out on the way, yet seeking help to gain a better understanding of themselves.

I believe that growth occurs at the edge of our comfort zone. When we become complacent and just "settle", we have cut off our opportunity for happiness. Together, we can discuss obstacles, concerns, and life stressors, whether it be related to work, relationships, trauma, addiction, or life transitions. I strongly believe that it is important to meet each client where they are at. When this occurs, I am able to offer an integrative approach, combining different therapeutic tools and approaches to meet your individual needs. I have experience with and continue to see children (age 5+), adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

My ideal clients are veterans, first responders, high-stress professionals, fathers, leaders, business owners, and trauma survivors who are tired of just managing symptoms and pretending everything is fine. Many come to therapy dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, relationship strain, or the pressure of always being the one others depend on. As a Marine Corps veteran, father, business owner, researcher, and therapist, I bring both clinical training and real-world experience. My goal is to build insight, improve communication, strengthen relationships, and move toward a life that feels more honest and connected

As subjects develop and evolve through conversation I try to incorporate specific skills associated with different therapeutic modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness based practices.
Over the past 15 years I have been working primarily to help individuals suffering with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders, which has provided me a vast personal experience with many circumstances that would cause someone to seek therapy. I believe in the power of authentic connection within a therapeutic relationship and would like to help you develop into the person you believe you can be.

Many clients come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns shaped by past trauma, anxiety, or painful relationship experiences despite wanting meaningful change. I became a therapist because I deeply believe in the human capacity to heal and grow. My goal is to create a safe space for clients to heal at their own pace and develop greater emotional safety, confidence and connection. There is no pressure to share painful experiences until you feel ready. We will move at a pace the feels supportive and manageable.

Do you ever feel like you can't get past a childhood trauma or a traumatic event you experienced as an adult? Do you have strong reactions to situations that most people do not find stressful? Are these reactions interfering with your relationships, ability to trust others and respect yourself? I have worked for 37 years helping clients deal with trauma and move forward in their lives. Most recently I spent 17 years working with both male and female Veterans. My other experiences is are too extensive to describe in detail here. I will say I enjoy working together clients to find solutions and develop skills to improve their lives.

In the past five years, I have transitioned from an office to solely telehealth, and I have found telehealth to be just as personal and effective as in-person. Hey, I’m Tylynn. I'm a no BS therapist - I’m real, I’m grounded, and yeah, I curse in session if that’s the language your soul speaks. I bring empathy, accountability, and straight-up honesty. No sugarcoating, no performative “therapist voice”—just a real human showing up with you. I work with the heavy, messy, life-hits-hard stuff: trauma, burnout in all its forms, anxiety, depression, parenting, and perinatal mental health. If you’re tired, overwhelmed, losing yourself, or constantly bending your boundaries until they snap, I’ve got you. We’ll dig deep, cut through the noise, and build you back up with clarity and strength.

The human experience is complex and layered. It is often taken for granted and underestimated. In our profession, it is a privilege to have access to such complexities; a privilege to witness the moment when despair transforms into hope and futility no longer exists. Humans are vast and exploration is limitless. As a psychologist, I would be remiss by engaging my work without intentionality, humility, and culturally appropriate care. As someone with marginalized identities, I find value in reflecting in the moment with clients. I use a multicultural counseling model to address the unique needs of clients of color and LGBTQ+ folks.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
