I have a masters degree in clinical mental health counseling from Liberty University, and my ideal client is a man, woman, or couple who wants their faith integrated with their therapy, but needs greater psychological support than what a pastor can offer.
My name is Frank Mele, and as a Christian mental health professional, I take pride in combining my clinical and theological expertise to bring truth and healing to my clients. I am licensed in the state of PA as an Associate Professional Counselor. With a strong background in engineering and construction, I made the decision to pivot my career to pursue my passion for faith-based mental health. Despite this shift, I continue to leverage my skills in business, organizational leadership, and strategic planning to help my clients "engineer" a new future of abundant life!

I have a particular interest in supporting men and masc-identified individuals, LGBTQIA+ clients, and those in non-normative relationships.
As someone who has taken a non-linear path in life, I believe growth is always possible, even when it feels invisible to those around you. Growth can be exciting and rewarding, but it can also feel disorienting—leaving you lonely in rooms full of people you adore or feeling empty, even in moments of success. Therapy offers a space to better understand yourself and your relationships, helping you feel more fully engaged with the world around you. My approach is attachment-based and strengths-focused, helping clients explore their relationships, roles, and emotions.

I specialize in working with men, but I richly enjoy working with people of different gender identities across the lifespan.
It is not my place to tell you how to feel or how to be in response to life; your experiences, desires, and goals are your own. It is my job to work on understanding, as best I can, what you envision for your life and assist you in bringing it into the world. Sometimes this work can be focused on a particular area or issue, while other times it can feel harder to pin-down the exact cause. We start where you are and then collaborate on finding a way forward together.

As a cis gay man in ethically non-monogamous relationships, I have had my own experience with identity confusion, discrimination, bullying, and religious trauma.
You often feel like you are navigating a world that was not meant for you. You have spent years trying to find "your place" in the chaos but continue to struggle with where that is and how to even begin exploring that in a way that feels safe and supportive. Honestly, you have a hard time envisioning what it would even feel like to have found "your place". You often feel "other" and "on the outside", which makes social and romantic relationships difficult and only exacerbates the feelings and experiences you already struggle with on a daily basis. Anxiety, grief and loss, depression, neurodiversity, stress...

As a man of color, I can certainly speak to (and attest to) the various intersections we find ourselves including the challenges of navigating life within these intersections.
Hi! I am Jonathan. I am a sex & relationship therapist who specializes in supporting people navigating various challenges including life transitions, parenting, fatherhood, ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, sexuality, intimacy, & challenging toxic masculinity. I work with individuals and couples. I believe that a safe space is a brave space. I do my best in crafting safety, which allows for self-exploration and healing at your pace. Please know that you do not need to be going through a life challenge or be in distress to talk to a therapist. Therapy is a valuable form of self-care and I can aid in strengthening your self-care goals.

If I had to choose a "specialty", it would be grief and male adolescents.
In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor, I am also a School Counselor and coach. I had to overcome a lot of adversity which led me to pursue counseling as a career. I am really passionate about helping people through many different circumstances and situations. Everyone is different and my counseling approach is geared to the individual and presenting issue(s). I have worked with a variety of students/clients over the last 12 years so I am comfortable working with any issue or challenge. The most prevalent have been depression, ADHD, stress, anxiety, substance use, peer and family relationships, and grief.

I have witnessed first hand the transforming power of therapy with adolescents, teenagers, and adults ( both men and women).
The tenets of therapy I am schooled in are client centered, cognitive behavioral, and motivational interviewing. All of this culminates in the idea that the most effective therapy work resides in the “ here and now” of the therapy relationship. This is a safe space where a client grows and learns new things about themselves and their place in the world.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
