I view therapy and supervision as an opportunity to better understand yourself as a whole. When we take time to explore how we act, think, and feel we are able to access as well as accept new parts of ourselves and new perspectives on life. The process of knowing yourself can be powerful. I can offer this opportunity for you to explore yourself & possible changes in a safe, supportive, non-judgmental, & welcoming environment. I take a collaborative approach to healing, which means YOU are the expert and we work together to offer you healing. I am happy to provide letters for gender affirming surgeries for Trans/GNC folx.

I genuinely enjoy working with individuals who are ready to make meaningful changes in their lives. I understand that making the first call for counseling can feel intimidating, and I recognize the courage it takes to reach out for help. My goal is to make that first step as comfortable as possible. From the moment you arrive, you'll be welcomed into a warm, inviting environment where you can relax with a beverage and light refreshment before we begin. Building trust is an important part of the counseling process, and I believe that healing and personal growth happen best in a setting where you feel heard, respected, and understood

She believes there is incredible potential for healing and growth that emerges in a counselor's office. The late poet Maya Angelou quoted, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you”. This quote holds a powerful message to those interested in a therapeutic relationship. There is no substitute in the act for good therapy. It is where vulnerability and courage cross paths. Therapy offers a safe place to take the mask off, and explore new ways to establish living healthily. Susan is passionate about healing communities and families.

At Serenity Hill Counseling & Wellness LLC, we explore what it means to have a mind/body/spirit connection and how to assist people in healing WHOLE. For far too long, our society has separated the mind, body, & spirit. While we have made great strides in the world of medicine, we have also taken hundreds of steps backwards in the world of spirituality and emotional well-being. We have downplayed our innate ability to heal. At SHCW we dive into the world of holistic healing while combining this with evidenced-based treatment options to encompass ALL areas of wellness. We encourage each client to develop their own path to healing!

I strive to help individuals live up to their full potential by overcoming life obstacles. With sincere interest and a creative approach, I help people by focusing not only on the individual, but also the social and cultural dynamics that influence their well being.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Therapists
When should someone seek treatment for a traumatic brain injury?
People should seek a diagnosis and treatment after a head injury, especially if they were unconscious, and an early diagnosis can lead to a better recovery. Signs of a concussion include headaches, nausea or vomiting, exhaustion, dizziness, vision problems, sensitivity to light and sound, problems with attention and memory, brain fog, unusual irritability or sadness, and unusual sleep patterns.

What’s the most common treatment for a traumatic brain injury?
Treatment for a traumatic brain injury will be different depending on the severity of the problem. For mild injuries, treatment may involve rest and over-the-counter pain or headache medication. For moderate or severe injuries, treatment may involve stabilization, medication, and rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and counseling.

How long does it take to recover from traumatic brain injury?
The recovery time for a traumatic brain injury depends on the individual and the severity and nature of the injury; the length of time spent unconscious is often an indicator of severity. Recovery time for mild injuries may be a week or two while recovery time for more severe injuries may be six months to two years. Research suggests that the vast majority of recovery occurs in the first two years after an injury; recovery after that time frame is less certain.

What if a traumatic brain injury is left untreated?
If a traumatic brain injury is left untreated, it can lead to long-term physical and mental health problems. Physical problems may include dizziness, headaches, vision, healing, or speech loss, and an elevated risk of dementia. Psychological problems may include impairments of memory, judgment, and decision-making, depression, aggression, poor impulse control, and personality changes.
