Many of my clients feel anxious, stuck, and overwhelmed from their past and present life experiences. They question who they are, wonder if they can be truly be their authentic self around others, and feel disconnected from their bodies. They experience chronic people-pleasing, impostor syndrome, social anxiety, workaholic behaviors, and perfectionism. I often work with healthcare professionals, college students, and young adults who are wanting to change these experiences in order to heal their nervous system.

Who would you be if you were not ashamed or afraid or depressed? Be the change you desire in your life! Common Issues addressed in therapy: Creating healthy boundaries with relationships, communication and conflict, healing from painful and abusive relationships, identifying your own sense of self and your emotional needs, depression and anxiety.

There are lots of reasons to go to therapy. Here are some good ones... Having trouble getting out of bed. Scrolling endlessly on your phone. Being unable to sleep through the night. Eating or drinking to bring comfort. Wondering why nothing you do is good enough. Hiding parts of who you are from people you love. Despite your best efforts you can't seem to have good relationships with friends, family, or lovers. Doing a ton for others and getting little in return. Thinking you're unimportant, ignored, used, paranoid, ashamed, guilty, and otherwise unlovable. Thinking about bad experiences over and over and being unable to stop.

Anxiety is everywhere these days. We're all making our way through a sea of unknowns, and our children are along for the ride. I believe that YOU, a parent or caregiver, have been doing the very best that you can for your child. I also know that with limited resources, a lack of external support or your own mental health strain, supporting a struggling child often feels impossible. If you’ve exhausted a list of ideas to help your child with little progress, let me join you. Together we can redistribute that emotional weight you’re carrying and give your child a big wide space to heal and grow.

Are your relationships stressing you out? Do you find yourself constantly worrying others are mad at you? Do you struggle with telling people no? Maybe you worry frequently that people will leave you. Maybe you find yourself avoiding people because it all feels too overwhelming. Our personal history, family context, biology, all impact how we interact in relationships. I help people with relationship-related anxiety, religious trauma, and complex trauma process the past and develop the self-compassion to move forward.

Hola! My name is Aurelio. I provide
IFS
-informed EMDR and relationship therapy in English and Spanish for adults, including those who identify as people of color, poly/non-monogamous, kinky, LGBQ+, and trans/gender expansive. I also support folks exploring identities, and those healing from trauma and emotional pain. My liberation and healing are bound up with yours. I see healing as an ongoing process that we do for ourselves, our community, our ancestors, and the ones who will come after us. A process where we collectively hold space for each other, tend to our wounds, laugh, and strengthen our capacity to survive and thrive.

While I am Level 2 Gottman trained and pull from attachment theory and
family systems
approaches, therapy with me often doesn't feel like traditional "therapy".
Accepting new clients! You are SO damn tired of playing "the pronoun game" or pretending your other partner is your roommate (they're not). Just once, you want to walk into a room without a question in your mind about whether or not you will be judged. You're exhausted from waiting to see how others will react. You've never been able to FULLY dive into therapy because there's a whole bucket of shit that you don't think anyone would understand. Holding onto the shame is suffocating you, and you just want to find some relief. You want to feel like you are truly thriving in this life instead of merely surviving your way through it.

I primarily draw from Internal
Family Systems
, Narrative, & Gottman therapies in my work, as well as specializing in working with LGBTQ+ clients.
My clients come to me because they want to deepen and strengthen their relationships - not just with each other, but with themselves. They want to understand the family and societal systems that shaped them into who they are today, and to heal old wounds and trauma so that they can move forward from a place of strength, healing, and connection. Many of my clients exist at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities, and have struggled to find a therapist who will understand and not further stigmatize their identities, and who is committed to unlearning systems of oppression. I seek to provide a healing space for them.

I use a trauma informed lens and a non-judgmental framework in therapy that can include mindfulness, internal
family systems
(
IFS
), compassion focused, and feminist based theories focused on empowerment.
Accepting new clients! As a queer, trans, non-binary human I will offer my lived experience and clinical expertise where appropriate to provide a safe and affirming space. Not only for queer people, but anyone who has ever felt alone or ‘other’. I became a therapist because I know how hard it was for me to find a queer-competent and affirming mental healthcare provider when I needed it the most. I specialize working with people who struggle with complicated thoughts and feelings surrounding sexual health & wellness, intimacy, desire, sexuality, gender identity, trauma, and non-monogamous relationships.

I guide teenagers, adults, and couples through their stages of healing using Trauma Informed, Internal
Family Systems
Informed and Holistic Practices.
I believe each of us has a gift of Self to unwrap and embrace along life's journey, especially when we've lived through a life threatening event or a series of chronic traumas. I know first hand how impossible connecting to ourselves can seem afterward. We grieve the loss of a sense of safety and often believe that our identity has changed to what has happened to us. We fear life will always be tarnished and feel set apart by our shame. Through my own life journey and my experiences as a Trauma therapist I have witnessed the reclaiming of Self that arises from the ashes of violence when healing begins to happen!

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
