I have experience working with individuals with ADHD, depression, anxiety, grief and loss , trauma (even sexual), low self-esteem, attachment issues, peer and family related issues, marital distress, PTSD, among many other various issues.
Therapy is a key component to success as an individual. Many people do not realize the lifelong benefits that one receives from successfully identifying an issue or concern and being open minded enough to explore and grow from your own limitations. Whether it be your mind, emotions, past traumas, or current life situations- they all have a monumental impact in our daily lives. The purpose of therapy is to explore those concerns, and use them to add value to your life and find a way to heal and move forward in a positive manner.

Life is full of changes. While any change can be trying and stressful, some are harder on us than others. The death of a loved one, a traumatic health event, diagnosis of a chronic disease, ending of a relationship, these can be especially challenging and really rock our sense of safety and well-being. These changes can lead us to feeling lost, anxious, sad, angry, or just plain "stuck".

I'm currently accepting new clients that desire to heal their trauma or grief . Have you experienced a life shattering event that changed the way you looked at yourself? Trauma impacts us in many ways & makes us feel disconnected from who we truly are and what we really want out of our lives. The World Health Organization recommends EMDR therapy as an effective treatment for trauma. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy that uses bilateral stimulation to process traumatic events in a more adaptive manner & can alleviate symptoms of post-traumatic stress, anxiety, & other mental health conditions.

I've spent the last 10 years supporting children and adults cope with trauma, life transitions, bereavement , chronic illness, depression, and emotional skill learning.
There are times when we feel like we can use extra support in life. Children may feel vulnerable and need their caring adult to help them find this support. For adults, that can come in the form of reaching out to a friend. We don’t always seek support because we feel shame, are too nervous, or are worried about what others might think. Talking to someone outside of your circle, in a non-judgmental environment, can often relieve some of that stress.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
