I am here to help adolescents, young adults and adults who want to begin the process of healing.
Life is hard, and for those who have experienced trauma, the hardships endured can be debilitating. These hardships can be processed and healed through a therapeutic alliance with a skilled counselor. With focus on providing tools for affect regulation and narrative processing, clients will learn the skills necessary to move through their emotions in a safe environment and apply them in their natural environment.

As Brene Brown says, "Happiness isn’t always easy or obvious-It takes bravery, courage, and vulnerability, even when uncomfortable, to own and embrace our true authentic selves and accept who we are-Flaws and all." You are still worthy of happiness- no matter what is happening, what you’ve dealt with, or the flaws you have. I hope to support you in your growth to help you learn and be able to deal with what you are going through and work towards happiness. Even if its tough right now, this process can be worth it! You can learn, grow, understand, deal, and build confidence in your own authentic self to create your own happiness.

I have had the privilege to work with a diverse patient population over my decade of practice. My favorite thing to see in a patient is a desire to get well and have a fulfilling life. If that inner drive is there, we can help you at Journey. It is such a joy to see people come from difficult situations, a slew of other providers with a medicine list a mile long, and learn how to become empowered over their life again. I believe all perceived mistakes are attempted solutions that need more education. I teach people to go from a space of helplessness and shame to pride and awareness.

I have a background in working with children ages 10+, adolescents and adults in many aspects of mental health: anxiety and depression, ADHD, stress, PTSD, and relationships and communication skills.
Are you “stuck”—either on something that’s changed in your life, in the world around us, or just in general? Maybe something just feels strange or "off". Change is intimidating, even when we take it one step at a time, and often we can’t see the full picture without stepping away for a wider view. Sometimes, you just need another perspective - one that's neutral and doesn't "take sides." Your situation, just like you, is unique, and I can help you through it. I’m here to honor your struggle and help you build on the skills you have. I can help you respect or heal past decisions and help you to define new ones.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
