I offer both in-person and telehealth individual therapy and in-person ketamine-assisted therapy Mon-Thur with some evening appointments.
I do my best work with clients who are curious about themselves, have a good sense of humor, and are often at a significant transition point in their lives. Clients most often begin working with me around issues related to trauma, anxiety, or relational wounding and are seeking new ways to relate to themselves, others, and the world around them. My overarching goal in my work with clients is to help them move through the world with a greater degree of consciousness, courage, and compassion - whatever that may mean or look in their lives.

As a therapist I believe all people have the inherent strength to make positive life changes and often just need empowered through compassionate support. We all have times in our lives when we get stuck in our relationships and just need new effective ways of coping and communicating. I practice from a trauma focused and structural family perspective. I have been very successful in helping couples, families, individuals, and adolescents make positive changes that have lead to feelings of peace, healing, a sense of personal accomplishment, and problem resolution.

As a Queer, neurodivergent person, I know what it means to feel out of place in this world. I love working with people who are trying to figure out life, whether that's diving into identity exploration, empowering neurodiversity, or learning how to fit into the world. My goal as a therapist is to help you understand how your mind works (especially when it feels like it’s working against you) and seek ways to find solace in who you are. I am passionate about guiding people through the processes of navigating identity, strengthening relationships with others and self, and healing their inner voice.

I have availability on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays either in-person or virtually!
Offering Pro Bono services as a master's student at the University of Pittsburgh! Life can be complicated and challenging, and no one should have to navigate those experiences alone. While counseling often involves meaningful and serious conversations, I also believe that laughter and humor can be powerful tools in the healing process. I try to bring a balance of empathy, curiosity, and occasional humor into the counseling room. My ideal client comes in with openness to the process to work together to help you reach your goals.

I am doing video sessions and in person session starting in June!
Motherhood is often marketed as a "glow," but for many, it feels more like a whirlwind of anxiety, exhaustion, and a lost sense of self. I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to not be okay. I am a therapist dedicated to supporting new and expecting mothers through the realities of Postpartum Depression and Anxiety. With a specialized focus on ADHD and Generalized Anxiety, I help women who feel "constantly wired" learn to regulate their nervous systems. We work on managing the mental load of motherhood while honoring the person you are outside of being a mom. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, overstimulated, or just plain stuck, I’d love

I see clients via telehealth in PA and MD and in person in Pittsburgh.
Welcome! I'm Joanna. I work with adolescents (16+) & adults, most frequently young adults. I particularly enjoy working with transitional issues - changes in relationships, school, jobs, family, identity, etc. Often, my clients are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and/or interpersonal conflict. I value working with folks with a range of backgrounds, races, faiths, genders, sexualities, and lifestyles. I see people through a systems lens, recognize the oppressive barriers to mental wellness, and encourage reflection on cultural impact. My ideal client is open minded, patient, and motivated for change.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
