Unfortunately, many people learn to avoid topics related to their trauma or loss for fear that talking about it will cause uncontrollable painful emotions to arise.
What if I told you that you wouldn’t have to avoid people, places or activities? Seems impossible, right? Wrong! Nothing is impossible. While working in a safe setting, you can learn grounding skills to utilize when experiencing intrusive thoughts, identify self-worth, and learn to process ways to focus on what is in your control.

Now strain shows up as anxiety, sleeplessness, a temper on a hair trigger, or a numbness you can't shake.
I blend talk therapy with body-based and biofeedback methods. We make sense of the parts of you that pull in different directions. We settle the nervous system through breath and attention. We train the heart toward steadier rhythms. This simple triad—mind, body, heart—helps loosen old patterns of anxiety, pain, or self-criticism, and opens room for choice.

Maybe that change relates to ongoing patterns of negative thinking, unhappiness, overwhelming anxiety, depression, self-criticism, feeling stuck, or procrastination.
My approach in therapy works by first embracing and fostering what is authentic, true and whole in each of us. From here, we engage in an active process of exploring unhelpful reactive patterns in the mind-body connection that lead to suffering, and call upon sensorimotor and mindfulness-based practices such as MBCT or MBSR to step out of unhelpful patterns.

You may be carrying anxiety, feel stuck in patterns you can’t seem to break, struggling in relationships, or trying to hold everything together while feeling exhausted underneath.
My approach to therapy is relational, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that healing happens through connection. I take time to build trust because strong rapport creates the foundation for meaningful, lasting change. At the same time, I believe growth sometimes requires being gently challenged.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
