My name is Jared Helman, LPC, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over seven years of experience working with adolescents, teens, and adults. I specialize in helping individuals who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected due to trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, or substance use. Many clients come to therapy after years of pushing through life in survival mode, managing stress on their own, and minimizing their needs, only to realize that old coping strategies are no longer effective and are beginning to negatively impact their relationships, work performance, emotional stability, and overall sense of self.

I am driven by a core set of values centered on social justice and decolonization, and the conviction that no one should have to navigate their darkest moments in isolation. Having navigated my own journey of healing, including chronic illness, I use my lived experience as a bridge to offer genuine validation without judgment. I understand that living with chronic conditions affects not just your body, but your relationships, your identity, your daily functioning, and your sense of self. Together, we'll acknowledge both the visible and invisible impacts of your struggles, creating space for the full complexity of your experience.

I help patients find hope in adversity. I explore a patient's need for external validation and identify old, negative motivators used to inspire achievement-based goals. I teach self-care and self-regulating practices while modeling healthy attunement. Together, we explore conflict-avoidant behaviors and healthy dependency. Being a highly sensitive person is not a weakness but an empathic strength. I explore the guilt, shame, and fear that cause "analysis paralysis." I analyze unhealthy habits and teach clients to build trust and reconnect with a traumatic body that no longer trusts. You are the expert and I am your guide.

Hello! I am Pat (they/he), a Queer and trans Licensed Social Worker. My past work as a neuroscience researcher, along with my own mental health struggles, drove me towards therapy as a calling. I am Queer-friendly, fat-positive, kink and ENM friendly, and anti-oppression in my stances; as much as I can, I want the therapy space to be an open and healing environment rather than one that recreates systemic inequality.

I am in-network with UPMC, Highmark / Anthem / Capital BCBS, Geisinger, Cigna, Aetna, and UnitedHealthcare commercial plans but can also provide a superbill for out-of-network clients.
HI! I’m Abbie – a white, pansexual, neurodiverse, agnostic-athiest, nonbinary person. I’ve been a therapist for two years and love what I do! In and out of therapy, I am naturally compassionate, very curious, and values-driven. I tend to be very expressive and have been told on a couple of occasions that I remind people of a cartoon character, which I take as an excellent compliment on my openness, transparency, and unmasking. All of these parts of me help inform my version of therapy, allowing me to engage the folks I work with in introspective exploration of who they are and how they came to be.

You may look like you’re holding it together, yet inside feel overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally exhausted. If you’ve experienced trauma, it can feel like there’s a part of you that’s been stuck in the past, even if you’re doing your best to move forward. It’s not uncommon to feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure about how to start the heal. Trauma can leave deep marks, and it’s okay if you don’t have all the answers right now. I understand how difficult it can be to trust again, to face the pain, or to ask for help. But I also know that healing is possible. With patience, the proper support, and a safe space to explore your experiences, it’s likely that you can reclaim parts of yourself you may have thought were lost forever.

I accept Aetna, Highmark/ Anthem/BCBS, UPMC, Geisinger, Cigna, and United/Optum commercial plans.
I work with people who want therapy that acknowledges the reality of living in this world - the systems, oppressions, and stressors that shape mental health. Many of my clients are Black, queer, or otherwise marginalized, and are looking for care that validates those experiences. My approach is direct, collaborative, and informal - you can expect some humor, direct honesty, and lived understanding with me. I don’t shy away from naming the ways systemic harm impacts our lives.

I strive daily to take a compassionate approach while working with individuals including adolescents over 17 and adults. I have experience collaborating in treatment with individuals with mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and trauma and I work with individuals who are 17 years and older. I believe a significant part of the therapeutic process is building a therapeutic relationship with my client. Being able to practice this healthy relationship in therapy can help to improve other relationships outside of therapy.

We can’t always control what happens to us—but we can choose how we respond, heal, and move forward. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. You may be navigating the loss of a loved one, working through past trauma, or simply feeling overwhelmed by the demands of everyday life. Wherever you are, taking the step to explore therapy is already a meaningful move toward change.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
