Sexuality is a complex, personal, and social experience. Many of us were raised with secrecy, silence, and shame. This often results in unsatisfactory or unhealthy sexual and emotional relationships. Many people today are struggling with sexuality and sex with their partners. We often don't know how to communicate about our wants, needs, desires, and boundaries. We may feel lonely, isolated, or misunderstood. There may be resentment or hurt in your relationships. Let's work together to heal the wounds and have a healthier, happier sexual life.

I have experience and expertise in various treatment modalities, including EMDR, Emotion-Focused & Attachment therapy, Human Sexuality Education, Sex Therapy , and Somatic Experiencing.
My clients generally present with various types of trauma (e.g., a complex, single incident, attachment, and more), sexuality issues, or spiritual/religious work and trauma. Often, I find many of my clients have had bad experiences with others and need space for them to be and discover themselves truly. Working with individuals looking to understand themselves, institute boundaries, find their identity, and have the desire to heal is truly rewarding for everyone involved.

My work with men has focused on concerns about sexuality , intimacy, commitment, and issues about fathers and fathering, childhood trauma as well as masculinity.
I work with individuals and couples to create positive changes in their lives. This includes those struggling in areas such as self-esteem, intimacy, addressing emotional needs, healing from past hurts/trauma, a history of neglect or abuse, or challenges regarding gender and sexuality . I work with couples, straight/lesbian/gay, who are working on their relationship, whether as a result of an affair, or realizing differences that keep them from being close. My research focuses on men and the effects of expectations on men’s lives. Pursuing therapy represents a longing to heal. My work is about supporting that process.

I have a Master's of Education in Human Sexuality degree from Widener University, which has given me unique training in addressing dissatisfaction related to relationship health, sexual trauma, gender and sexual identity, or sexual dysfunction.
No matter its roots in emotional, medical or physical experiences, trauma of all varieties and degrees stays in the body, sometimes emerging many months or years later in unexpected ways. Relationship friction and troubles with mood can reflect past experiences, some great some small, that may need addressing with an attentive, caring professional. I am passionate about helping motivated clients process trauma or relationship dissatisfaction to work toward a more empowered self.

Just because you carry it well, doesn't mean it isn't heavy. You deserve more than just being seen. The world is a scary and ever-changing place. Dealing with uncertainty, transition, and challenges puts stress on relationships, and on personal values. Curiosity, mindfulness, and a dialectical approach makes it possible to find meaning, and even pleasure, in some of the most bleak situations, with the right support.

Have you "disappeared" in order to be in a relationship? Do you feel "selfish" considering your own needs and wants? Would you like to stand up for yourself AND still be in relationship? Is the phrase, "I matter, too," one you want to believe? If so, the time has come to create effective ways to move into relationship with Self and Others. The truth is that each of us matters equally. When we live from a place of mutual importance, we honor boundaries, make decisions for ourselves, and are responsible for the only person we can truly manage, our self.

While other programs claim to be 'trauma-informed', our practice revolves entirely around trauma therapy. This is what we do best. The Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy is named after the legendary figure of the phoenix that dies and is reborn from its own ashes – it is a symbol of transformation and resilience. The phenomenon of growing after experiencing trauma has been labeled “Post-Traumatic Growth”. This is exactly what we help our clients cultivate in their lives. Sex Therapy

Who is sex therapy for?

Sex problems are common in relationships. Many people want a better sex life and want to feel loved and desired by their partner. It is difficult for couples to resolve sexual problems on their own because people often feel ashamed to talk about their sexual desires fearing they are not normal, when in fact a very broad range of preferences and behaviors are normal. A sex therapist can help clarify this and other matters.

Why do people need sex therapy?

Many people do not know how to talk about their erotic needs or their emotional needs, both of which are addressed in sex therapy. Couples often live with sexual difficulties for years before seeking help, and in that time, partners may experience so much disappointment and alienation that they may fear their problems mean they are incompatible. Once people experience disappointment, it is difficult to find resolution without help.

What happens in sex therapy?

People have many misconceptions about what takes place in sex therapy. First, it is a form of talk therapy in which partners discuss their sexual concerns; it does not involve touching or physical exploration of any kind. Sex therapy typically helps couples get comfortable talking to each other about sex so that, in the privacy of their home life, they can openly discuss their sexual desires and make decisions about what they want to do. Couples are typically assigned activities to do at home that build intimacy skills.

What kinds of problems do sex therapists treat?

Very often, partners differ in their degree of sexual desire and struggle over how often to have sex. Or they may have fights about porn use or have difficulty connecting sexually after one partner is unfaithful. Men may have problems with premature ejaculation. Women may find themselves struggling to become aroused or to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes partners feel like they have lost the sense of attraction to their partner. These are all common issues dealt with in sex therapy.
