I work with adolescents and adults who face challenges related to ADHD, learning problems, anxiety, stress management, and general wellness/lifestyle. Using a combination of cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and relational techniques and theories I am able to tailor treatment to your specific needs. My emphasis is on connection, collaboration, and self-care throughout the treatment process. While my primary focus is individual therapy, at times I find it appropriate to incorporate family members into sessions to address issues such as parenting, family dynamics, relationship issues, or school problems.

It's worth it to contact your insurance company and ask whether you have any out of network benefits.
I listen carefully first to get a sense of who you are and what it is that you want help with. I then work with you to figure out what kind of approach will best help you. I always respect your feedback as to what is helpful and what is not and will keep trying until we figure out how to get you to where you want to be. Please visit my website, http://therapywithsusan.com/ for more information. I am an out of network provider; however, I will provide you with a superbill with all relevant information needed for you to access any out of network benefits through your health insurance company for reimbursement.

Anxiety is our least-welcome companion. It holds us back when we try to take a step forward. It stands in the way when we try to connect with others. It convinces us that the world is scary and the safest place is our home. Anxiety wears many masks, but the best defense is learning how to identify it when it pops into our lives and combat it with a variety of techniques you will learn in therapy. Together we can chip away at what holds you back in your life and build strong coping skills that will prepare you for a successful life ahead.

While other programs claim to be 'trauma-informed', our practice revolves entirely around trauma therapy. This is what we do best. The Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy is named after the legendary figure of the phoenix that dies and is reborn from its own ashes – it is a symbol of transformation and resilience. The phenomenon of growing after experiencing trauma has been labeled “Post-Traumatic Growth”. This is exactly what we help our clients cultivate in their lives. While we cannot change the past, we can change how past experiences live within us Low-Cost Options Available with Our Graduate Interns

More adults, adolescents and children are experiencing depression and anxiety than ever before. Family, work, academics, social stress and isolation can affect us emotionally and physically. There has been a significant increase in drug and alcohol use, behavioral problems, medical complications, broken relationships, lost jobs and academic failure. Social media and the internet provide tremendous opportunities but also problems. In person and cyber bullying cause depression and sometimes death. Some of us experience severe trauma and develop PTSD. At some time we are need support. It is never weak to ask for help.

Each of us faces unique challenges as we go through life. Whether these challenges take the form of problems with work or relationships, with anxiety or depression, or simply with dissatisfaction over the current state of our lives, we all want to make improvements in how we experience our lives. We may also find that life presents certain demands of us at different stages requiring us to stretch beyond our accustomed habits and ways of being. Often our challenges can seem daunting, at times insurmountable, yet with the right support and perspective, we can be inspired to make positive changes.

Of the 10,080 minutes in a week, you will have 50 minutes to walk with a companion on your journey as you tell your beautiful and unique story. If you are exploring your gender and/or racial identity, let's work toward identifying how YOU want to. Coming out and navigating life as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community can be scary, but we can work on making it a little easier for YOU. Exploring your spirituality can feel overwhelming, but we can reduce that feeling for YOU one step at a time. You may notice a theme in the work we can do together. That theme... it is YOU.

How can I find a therapist in Media?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
