Imagine a life in which your challenges - depression, anxiety, fear, loneliness - are no longer holding you back. Feeling worried, guilty, lost, or unsure of how to connect with others can feel uncomfortable and intimidating. When we worry, struggle to find meaning, or feel a lack of motivation and clarity, it can affect our mood, relationships, and overall experience. When your challenges are not holding you back, you can have deeper relationships, greater satisfaction with work & personal pursuits, and less worry about issues like finances, happiness,
family
, etc.

I have a special interest in the
family
system and how that affects each individual. This includes psychotherapeutic treatment of couples, parents and their children. My goal going into each session with my clients is to help them feel, think and act more positively and have an overall improved quality of life than when they originally came to see me. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important things when engaging in the counseling process which means my primary focus is to aid my clients in handling stress and daily challenges. It can be difficult but with my support it is absolutely attainable.

I was trained in psychoanalytic theory, as well as
family therapy
, cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapy, all with focus on relationships.
It is my belief that beneficial treatment for all kinds of emotional difficulties lies, most importantly, in my active listening and then,in my offer to teach skill building techniques for problem solving. In this practice of listening and then reflecting back, I can assist you in learning to hear yourself and then, to use your skills to make better decisions. You can do this because you are able to use the newly learned strategies, that allow you to see your choices more clearly. Then, the decisions that you make can be the result of your own insights, not mine.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
