Life is hard (especially right now!). Many of us have encountered loss and disappointment that is oout of our control. But the difference between grief and trauma is very often the support we receive during these periods and the meaning we make of these losses. I work with clients using a highly effective, evidence based treatment called EMDR to help clear away trauma and experience more joy and ease in daily life. I have advanced training in perinatal mental health and specialize in supporting individuals and couples during the complex transition into parenthood and the losses that may accompany it.

With a specialization in Perinatal Mental Health, I utilize an eclectic approach anchored in Humanistic principles.
We all have a story to tell. We are made of thousands of them– from the haiku to the novel. Whether you feel like you’re spinning in circles or out of ideas, therapy can offer a fresh perspective through a clear lens. It can help wipe the fog off your glasses with the help of an objective outlook. You may feel like you are seeing Signs. Or hearing Sirens. Maybe from a direct Trauma. Or things are manifesting subtly throughout the fabric of your relationships. Whatever it is, you don't need to manage Your Story alone. You are worth it.

I enjoy working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, and grief and loss, as well as with women with perinatal mood disorders, such as postpartum depression and anxiety.
People can experience dark days at times, where the future feels uncertain, and everyday routines become difficult. Perhaps you feel stuck in what seems like an endless cycle of anxiety or depression, need to experience healing from past hurts or traumas, or are experiencing a painful life transition. Many people have insight into their problems, but struggle to find the ability to get “unstuck.” My desire is to help you find a new path, break down old habits, and discover new tools to cope. I have worked in the field of counseling for over fifteen years, helping people of various ages and backgrounds.

Anxiety, depression, stress, postpartum concerns, grief, substance use issues… I’m here for it all & all the less talked about in-betweens.
On the outside, you look like you’ve got it all figured out and everyone wonders how you manage to do it all. On the inside, you feel like a jumbled mess and have no idea how you’re going to keep it all going for much longer. You’re so used to taking care of everyone else and putting yourself last, if you’re even on your own list at all. I bet you’re having trouble sleeping and difficulty remembering what you even ate yesterday (did you even eat yesterday?).

Do you have symptoms that "make no sense," or "come out of the blue?" Are you having trouble understanding why you feel the way you do? I specialize in helping people make sense of experiences that are painful, confusing, or "illogical." I start with the assumption that all feelings are messages to you, from you, about you. Together, we will work to understand these messages, using them to guide the process of change.

Availability: I am currently only accepting clients with daytime availability (9am-4pm). I will help you identify what resources, strengths, and resiliency you already have - or can foster - to help you find the solutions you are looking for. I also value helping teenagers, and adults form a new relationship to their emotions in order to find ways to cope with extremes. When working with couples and families, I help individuals express themselves in a safe environment in order to find healing. If you are struggling with finding the light in the darkness, know that there is hope.

I strive daily to take a compassionate approach while working with individuals including adolescents over 17 and adults. I have experience collaborating in treatment with individuals with mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and trauma and I work with individuals who are 17 years and older. I believe a significant part of the therapeutic process is building a therapeutic relationship with my client. Being able to practice this healthy relationship in therapy can help to improve other relationships outside of therapy.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
